Auditions: Tuesday, May 10, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Monday, May 10, 2011.

So, you have successfully marketed yourself online, and those auditions are starting to fly in. You arrive at the audition, confident, looking good, and prepared to present yourself and any prepared materials before the casting director. You proudly hand over your beautifully printed headshot with your neatly formatted resume on the back, giving a smile to those in the room. Then, you hear those terrifying words, "Wow, that's you??"

Maybe you waited too long to get new headshots. Maybe your hair color or style has changed too much. Maybe your makeup artist did your makeup differently than you normally wear it for auditions. Whatever the case may be, your headshot must look like you in your current state, and must reflect the essence of your personality. As outlined in Lana Veenker's Tools 4 Actors newsletters, casting directors hate surprises. Not only will you waste a casting director's time, but you may anger agents and casting directors to the point where they will remember you from that experience and not call you in again. Many actors even have a variety of headshots to use for a variety of roles - theatrical, commercial, and film.

How do you determine whether you loo like your headshot? How do you know when it is time for new headshots? Do you use different headshots for different types of roles? Who took your headshots, and who would you recommend to others?

Let's open the discussion and chat about your thoughts with your headshots, which as an actor are your number one marketing tool before you step in the door for that audition.

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Audition for Sam Shepard play (NE Portland)

Gorilla Bomb Productions and Contagious Theatre are staging a production of Sam Shepard's Tooth Of Crime: Second Dance. This play is Sam Shepard's rock opera with music and lyrics by famed musician and producer T Bone Burnett.

The play takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where battles are fought with words and sound, and an aging rock star has to defend his title from a newcomer with a style all his own. The director is looking for courageous actors to bring a unique twist to Sam Shepard's diverse and abstract dialogue. The two lead roles have been cast but there are plenty of other juicy roles left to fill.

Becky: Female; Age 20-30; A codependent and cunning groupie of Hoss, the aging rock star.

Meera: Male or Female; Age 30-50; An aging star gazer with possible powers to see into the future.

Ruido Ran: Male; Age 20-30; A Dee Jay who can see into music.

Chaser: Male; Age 20-50; Infiltrator of bands and right hand man to Hoss.

Doc: Male or Female; Age 20-50; Local doctor who supplies illicit drugs to those who need it.

Ref: Male; Age 20-50; Referee who enforces the rules of the game.

Auditions will consist of line readings from the play. Monologues are welcome but not necessary. Auditions will take place on May 22, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The location will be given to those who are interested.

The show dates are July 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, and 31. There will be a rehearsal period before this in addition to a tech rehearsal before the show. Actors would also be required to sign a contract to get compensated.
