Auditions: Monday, May 02, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Monday, May 02, 2011.

This year is flying by, and May has arrived! With the start of this new month, and the popularity picking up for film in Portland, it may be even trickier to catch those red flags and scam audition posts. Even I tend to get tricked sometimes, so I appreciate the feedback regarding the recent audition posting requiring people to pay or sign up for a service.

This brings me to this week's topic of discussion. As actors, we may sometimes be asked to pay for specific services that can be viewed as marketing tools, but do these really help us find work? Casting Frontier is a popularly used resource in the Portland area, and while the basic profile is free, the premium profile is a minimal charge of $10/month, but opens up some very valuable resources, including having a demo reel available for visitors. Another widely known resource is IMDB, which is $15.95/month for a professional profile, also allowing a bio, headshots, and a demo reel.

There are other free actor resources out there, including
Actor Access, Actor Hub, Model Mayhem, but which are more beneficial to use, and at what stage is it necessary to pay for these resources to move your career forward? What are the online marketing tools you take advantage of, and are the free resources enough for your acting needs?

Let's open the discussion and chat about your thoughts.

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Magician's Assistant for a very High Profile Illusion Show (Oregon / Washington)

You will be performing on a show called "OPERATION: MAGIC." This show is headed up by master magician William Scott Anderson who was a finalist last year on the T.V. show America's Got Talent. As a magician’s assistant you are a member of the crew and generally work under the Show Manager. The crew includes everyone involved in the execution of the show. As a member of the crew you will take part in setting up and taking down the show. It is understood by “The Company” that individuals may have limitations to how much they can lift and move, and nobody will be expected to do more than they are physically or medically able. A magician's assistant is a performer in a magic act who is not billed as the magician or principal name in the act. The role of an assistant can include holding the props that are used by a magician, shifting props onto and off the stage, and serving as a living prop in illusions that involve manipulation of the human body. Other aspects of the role can include dancing or acting as visual ornamentation, sometimes for simple aesthetic purposes and sometimes to misdirect audience attention. Prior stage, acting, and dance experience would be ideal.

There is potential for television appearances, and travel......though this should be considered a part time job. We are currently booking a few large local shows per month.

OPERATION: MAGIC is currently looking to obtain a talent pool of assistants.

Watch performance videos and find more about OPERATION: MAGIC and Mr. Anderson at: www.illusionsofanderson.com

Compensation: Pay will be $125 dollars per show.
