Art Beat - Seeking Indie Films and Actors Needed - Reply by Dec 6

Included in this message is info about:
- Art Beat at Portland Community College
- an opportunity to present your work and discuss it
- compensation for some filmmakers and actors

Hello Filmmakers and Actors,

I represent Portland Community College and we are gearing up for Art Beat
2011 which takes place May 9th through 14th next year. For the last 2
years, we've included independent film offerings and local actors as guest
speakers. Last year included Audrey Walker and a screening of Steve
Coker's indie film, Crackin' The Code.

For 2011, because of the popularity of these events, we plan to include
short films and at least one feature film (possibly two) and definitely
one (but possibly two) actor guest speaker(s). All film events are at
PCC's Cascade Campus Auditorium, on N Killingsworth & Albina. This is a
great venue to present your film and you are assured of getting an
audience of enthusiastic students from PCC's Multimedia program. You may
also include a focus-group survey at the time you present your film.
Filmmakers who've done this have received excellent (and tactful!)
feedback from our audiences.

I will gladly take recommendations from anyone on this maillist if you
think there's a Portland (or relatively local) film or actor that you
think would be good to add to this event.

If you have a film or are an actor, here's what we need from you if you
are interested in participating:

FILMMAKERS - FEATURE FILMS

Please let me know about your film and provide links to your presskit (if
applicable) and a trailer on YouTube, Facebook, etc. I will likely send
you out a questionnaire to get more information once I hear from you.

You would likely be paid $200 (current PCC Art Beat stipend) for your
participation.

Preferences:
- that you are available to come to the screening and talk about your film
- a premiere
- films from Portland first, then Oregon, then Northwest

FILMMAKERS - SHORT FILMS

Please let me know about your film and provide links to your presskit (if
applicable) and a trailer on YouTube, Facebook, etc. I will likely send
you out a questionnaire to get more information once I hear from you.

At this time, it's not likely you'll be compensated for showing your film,
however, you will likely have a chance to discuss your film if you are
able to attend.

Preferences:
- running time 15 minutes or less
- films from the Northwest

ACTORS

We've been having actors speak to a Multimedia class and discuss their
work and answer questions from students. The time commitment is about an
hour to an hour and a half and will most likely occur on Thursday, May 12,
2011, beginning at 6:30pm.

Please provide me with a link to your reel on YouTube, etc., and a link to
your Web page or fan page, etc.

You would likely be paid $200 (current PCC Art Beat stipend) for your
participation.

Preferences:
- actors who live and work in Portland

You should be able to provide us with clips from films you've been in (2
or 3) and excerpts from scripts (entire scripts are not required).

If you are interested in this opportunity or know someone who might be,
please contact me at gregkerrnet@gmail.com -- please don't reply back here
-- and I will be happy to provide you with more information on the process
and the event.

Thanks!

Greg Kerr
PCC Cascade Faculty Representative

“Bus Stop” is “a composite picture of varying kinds of love, ranging from the innocent to the depraved” – Inge’s own words. It is a drama, with romantic and some comedic elements. The play is set in a diner about 30 miles west of Kansas City in early March, 1955. A freak snowstorm has halted the progress of the bus, and the eight characters (only five were in the bus) have a weather-enforced layover in the diner from approximately 1 to 5 a.m. Romantic or quasi-romantic relationships ensue between Grace and Carl; Professor Lyman and Elma; Cherie and Bo; and (implied) Virgil and Bo. Will is the older authority figure outside the relationships. The film version starring Marilyn Monroe was only very loosely based on this stage version.

Casting call for short film - Seattle

Casting call for short drama to be shot on HD: The Dinner Table. Director’s
latest film, Night Stand, has played SIFF, the Los Angeles International
Short Film Fest, and numerous other festivals in the United States and
Europe.

The Dinner Table is a short film about a family. At no point do we see the
entire family together, but through these incomplete portraits we come to
understand the entire family--through the absences of each member, we come
to understand what they mean to the whole.

The Dinner Table, like your own family, is both funny and poignant,
surprising and familiar, simple at times and irreducibly complex at others.
The film will be brief (approx. 15min) but give us a rich glimpse of these
characters and their relationships.

This will be a very performance-centric film and is a great opportunity for
actors to stretch their muscles.

6-day shoot in Seattle in mid-to-late winter with rehearsals preceding.
Non-union. Actors will receive stipend (TBD but in the neighborhood of
$50/day).

BOB - Late 50s/early 60s. Father, retired. Battling serious illness.

ALICE - Late 50s/early 60s. Mother, professional.

CATHERINE - Late 20s-mid 30s. Eldest daughter, community college teacher.

DAVID - Late 20s-early 30s. Middle child, struggling web designer.

ETHAN - 20s. Youngest son, barista and increasingly successful musician. No
real-life musical proficiency necessary.

Auditions will begin the weekend of December 4-5. In order of preference,
please send reel, headshot, and/or resume.

Second request for African American singers who can act

This is a second audition posting for African American experienced singers with a strong voice and charisma who can perform in a jazz opera based in Portland during the post war era. If you are interested, email Ken Dembo at kdembo65@comcast.net and include:

* name
* age
* email address
* phone number
* photo, or other info about yourself
* acting/singing resume

This RACC-funded production is titled Sherman: The Opera. The libretto is written by award-winning writer and former Oregonian columnist S. Renee Mitchell and the original score is by trumpeter and composer Thara Memory. Sherman will be staged during the last two weekends in February, for eight performances at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center. It will include a live band with some of the best jazz musicians in Portland. So, come prepared to work hard and learn a lot!

Conditions and Requirements:

1. Singers will be paid for their roles.

2. Time commitment is required for rehearsals during the months of December, January and early February 2011, and performances during the last two weeks in February.

3. There will be several roles for extras with no singing requirement, but those have no pay.

There will be a pre-selection process after you audition. A final selection will guarantee the roles to the selected actor. Thank you.

BACKGROUND: After the war, North Williams Avenue, also known as Black Broadway, became an entertainment strip where jazz ruled at all hours of the day and night in at least 10 clubs. The white middle class embraced the black music form – but only under the cover of night - as a form of indulgent entertainment into the darker underground sequestered by Jim Crow laws. Many jazz legends, i.e. Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald, performed in Portland as the black population, burgeoned during WWII to build war ships, brought their East Coast music to Portland.

During that time and years afterward, Sherman Thomas was considered to be THE city's most talented saxophone player. When he wrapped his full lips around the mouth of his saxophone, the fierceness of his notes electrified Portland's smoky jazz clubs, sending brown-skinned women's hips to swaying and married jazz lovers to make promises they couldn't keep.

In between sets, bartenders rewarded Sherman's musical expression with free drinks, drugs and trash talking. Over the years, Sherman's dance with his demons kept him in the streets. He could still deliver a gifted improvisational riff, drawn by his passion to release the notes still collecting in his head even when he was sleeping. But, the magic was sporadic, the shirt cuffs grew more frayed, and his promises less charming.

In the end, Sherman lost his hold on both of his loves – jazz music and his jazz-loving sweetheart, Marion. His body, weakened from dehydration, was found in the back alley of the Cleo-Lillian Social Club, Eventually, Sherman's presence, like his music, faded, leaving the memory of something missing, a sweet, familiar tune you couldn't quite remember but still can't get out of your head.

But in February 2011, Sherman is coming! Are you ready for the journey?

Middle-Aged African-American Actor (Portland)

I'm doing a photo shoot on December 16th, a Thursday, and am looking for a middle-aged African-American (or potentially Middle-Eastern) man for an extra-type role. It will not require much in the way of acting - primarily sitting at a table looking neutral. It's for a book project I'm doing.

The shoot time will be from 6:30 pm to 11:00 pm. Pay is $70 - I realize it's not a lot but it's a personal project. I will try my best to make it a fun shoot and I will serve food.

Submit a headshot or two with your response. Thanks for your time.

Third Eye Theatre Auditions for Upcoming Production

Hello everyone, there are quite a few roles available, and this production is somewhat male heavy. Male characters range in age from 19-60. There are only 3 roles that are specifically female, and they are generally younger, though one could be a bit older. All roles are voluntary, and this production is not for the faint of heart, but we would love to see you. I believe you can see the character breakdown on our facebook page as well.

Anyhow, below is the essential information.

Third Eye Theatre will be holding auditions for their upcoming production of Porn Shop!!! by John Heller on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 12:00pm. All roles are available, and will be unpaid & voluntary. Auditions will be held at the Back Door Theater, located at 4319 SE Hawthorne Blvd (behind the Common Grounds Coffee Shop). Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Headshot & resume requested but not required. No appointments necessary. For further information call 503-970-8874.

Porn Shop!!! runs January 7- February 12, 2011 with shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday nights at 8:00pm at The Back Door Theater, and will participate in Fertile Grounds. For reservations or information call 503-970-8874.

Porn Shop!!! is a hilarious, adult themed, romantic comedy about love, friendship, and day to day life working at a Porn Shop. Created by new Portland playwright John Heller, Porn Shop! takes a hard look at social issues important to the 20 and 30 something crowd such as superhero sexuality, lesbians, blow up dolls, promiscuous drunken sex, Bourbon and just how big is too big when your partner buys you a vibrator. Featuring witty dialogue along the lines of Waiting, Empire Records, and Clerks, Porn Shop! delves into the lives of 7 young people who know more about Star Trek and sex toys than they do about the friendships and relationships they participate in every day. If you like your comedy funny, sarcastic, poignant and a little bit risqué Porn Shop is a show you have to see!

Casting Call for Dark Drama

Directors: Jacob Flatau & Scotty Bailey
Contact: jacobflatau@yahoo.com
Title: Orchidist
Log Line: An obsessed orchid collector breaks into a house to steal a rare orchid where the house’s supernatural occupants confront him.
Tag Line: At what cost?

Shooting Dates: February or March 2011
Casting Date: December 4, 2010, 12-4pm

Muldoon
Age: 30-50
Muldoon is a sly orchid collector. He is intelligent, likable and calm, perhaps too intelligent for his own good. His obsession to find the final orchid for his collection overrides all else, no matter what the cost, even his own safety.

Lasson
Age: 30-45
Lasson is the leader of the occupants of the orchid house. He is very tall and lean with freakishly long arms (FX). Lasson is stoic, in control and self-assured of his power. He speaks in absolutes and makes Muldoon feel very nervous.

Mindla
Age: 30-60
Mindla does most of the speaking for the occupants of the house. While she appears welcoming, she has a hidden agenda for Muldoon. She is cryptic when speaking to him.

Francis/Francine
Age: 8-14
Francis is a precocious child. He/She is quiet but displays a confidence and power that seem beyond his/her years, like someone old trapped in a young body.

Dai Jin
Age: 30-50
Dai Jin is also an orchid collector. He is intelligent and cautious. He is Muldoon’s go to guy for rare orchids. He fears for the path Muldoon is about to go down but knows he can’t stop him from his obsession.

Extras: Basement Keeper & Man in Shackles
Age: 30-50
Both appear tired and worn out, as if they have had the life slowly sucked out of them. They feel like they have lost their identity.

Looking for 20s Male Actor to Play Scientist

Hello Performers Callboard Community,
I need an an actor to play the part of the father/scientist and it is a crucial part in my film. The actor should be in his 20s and older, the older the better and this is a no budget film but I can provide credit and a dvd copy. It is a sci-fi and supernatural short film and I envision the father to have a 1950s sleekness and father like sensibility and for the scientist a harsh and mechanical personality. If you wear glasses that would be another thumbs up. I will be shooting this wednsday from 10 am to 3 pm at the St. Edward State Park near Bothell, WA and as a backup plan I'm thinking of shooting maybe on friday or over the weekend, but I know its not the best time because it's the holiday season. Anyways, hope to hear from someone soon.

Call for Voice Actors

American Bedlam

Putting together a pilot for a dramatic webisode series that will explore
various characters, personalities, and stories of individuals placed in
mental hospitals throughout the last two centuries in order to truthfully
examine the state and history of mental hospitals of America's past.

I am still finalizing the script, but in terms of voice acting, I will have
a need for general staff and patients, so male and female voices within the
teens to 50's range, a superintendent in his 50's, a boy and girl aged
around 12-16. There are also a couple of unique characters that will require
accents, male from Germany in his 60's-80's, and female from Poland or
Russia also in her 60's-80's. Additional vocal nuances, such as the ability
to stutter, neurotic speech patterns, etc., would be fantastic.

I hope to send out scripts early this week, and will need a turn-around time
of no later than Nov 27th. I also will require, at least for the pilot, that
you have your own equipment for recording, and the ability to email me the
recordings. For this pilot, there is no pay, but copy/credit will be made
available. If the pilot goes well, there will be funding, and therefore
compensation, for the webisode series.

If interested in participating, please reply with a resume/experience, your
VO demo, a brief explanation of your range of character voices, and the
equipment you use to record to
public@americanbedlam.com.

This project is based out of Seattle, but as long as you are able to use
your own equipment and email it to me, you are welcome to record it at your
location of convenience.

Thanks in advance!

Voice Over Auditions

Everlasting Films is holding an audition for voice actors for its
upcoming programme, A Christmas Special 2010. As the voice actor will
record his or her own lines using their own equipment and send in
lines via the internet, this role may be filled by anyone regardless
of location.

This Special is a tradition dating back to 1980 and this will be our
31st season! Every year, Everlasting Films has made a five day
Christmas special, each day playing songs for the season. Beginning in
2004, we made it available on the internet. The programme is
available on the internet radio station Live365.

We are holding auditions for two roles: The Host and the Guest Host.
The Host presents all five days of the special. The Guest Host
appears in the Friday edition and reads the Christmas Story. You can
hear what the Guest Host does by listening to the Friday show.

We're sorry, but there is no pay for these roles. This is the only
production Everlasting Films does that does not pay. Everyone at
Everlasting Films works on the Christmas Special for free as part of
the season.

Last day for auditions is Monday, 22 November 2009.

To audition for the role of the Host, please read the following copy:

HOST: (Enters and takes place at podium) Thank you. Thank you. Since
1980, we have been privileged to bring A Christmas Special to you, and
this year marks our twenty-ninth season of "celebrating the season".
It's been a long wait for Christmas to come around, so let's not delay
any longer with our first Yuletide song!

To audition for the role of the Guest Host, please read the following
copy:

GUEST: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After his mother
Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found
with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph, her husband, being a just
man and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put
her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an
angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying, "Joseph, son of
David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife, for that which is
conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit, and she will bring forth a
son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

Thank you and Happy Christmas!

Please e-mail all auditions in the following format:

mp3, 16-bit, 44100 mHz, mono.
