Actresses wanted for silent comedies

Producing a collection of silent comedies in the vein of the classics of the genre like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton and am looking for interested and enthusiastic actresses to perform in the individual pieces. Each film will be a short, of the 5 to 10 minute variety, and are engulfed in wacky scenarios that are driven by active and physical comedy. A few of the storylines include a young woman who must teach herself to die and another one follows a young person who believes they have accidentally killed their landlord. As mentioned before, I am looking for upbeat and enthusiastic actresses interested in the lost art of true comedy.

Three Volunteer Actors (2F, 1M) Needed For "Brainless" Short! (Portland, East Side)

Salutations, prospective conspirators!

BRAINLESS is the story of Robert, a young, lovable, rather mad scientist who can't stand having his brain trapped in his head...and so removes it, carrying it around in a jar cabled to his spine. Until one day he drops it. Robert's pseudo-French girlfriend Vivette seems to enjoy his new brainlessness...brainless Robert briefly becomes a more daring lover, ruled by nerves and ganglions alone...until Vivette meets a winsome, gender-ambiguous psychotherapist, Dr. Rugburn, who still has a brain.

BRAINLESS is short, comedic, unabashedly (but ungratuitously) erotic, and ultimately, a tad bit gory!

I will need 3 volunteer actors. There will be no pay, but wining and dining is not out of the question! Schedules are flexible, but filming will begin as soon as we're cast, and will take place over the course of several days, spread across several weeks if individual schedules require it.

ROBERT: Male, mid 20s to early 30s, thin, 6~' tall, and glasses are a plus (you'll have them either way). At one point he appears wearing womens' underwear, Lux Interior-style, and again apparently naked but barely covered, so remarkable physical shyness is not encouraged!

VIVETTE: Female, mid 20s to early 30s, somewhat voluptuous, and capable of speaking with a French (ish) accent. Although nothing very graphic will be shown (consider it a mild PG-13), Vivette does appear to be nude several times, with modesty covered barely by other actors, props, or the camera frame. She may show a hint of bottom onscreen, but this is ultimately subject to the actor's comfort.

DR. ERNO RUGBURN: Female, mid 20s to early 30s, thin, short hair, with an androgynous look. At first Rugburn appears to be somewhat male, wearing a mustache, a "bulge", and typically male clothing, but is later de-mustached and revealed to actually be female. As with Vivette, she does appear semi-nude, though not graphically so, beyond a possible hint of bottom.

As you may imagine, this being a somewhat erotic comedy, there will be an amount of kissing, touching, entwined bodies, that sort of thing, required from all actors. All roles also involve a degree of blood and gore, particularly, being covered in it, in a bloody finale!

With that in mind, if you are interested in joining BRAINLESS, contact me (your writer/director/everything), with a self-description, a good photo representative of your present look, any acting experience, an amusing random factoid about yourself, and DO INCLUDE, in the subject line, a creative phrase involving the words "peanut butter", "mutants", and "kittens", so as to aid me in weeding out both spam and silly people who can't take direction! :)

Good day to you!

CASTING CALL FOR FEATURE FILM TEASER

This is a call for headshots for the production of a teaser trailer for the sci-fi/horror feature film, DEAD STRAIGHT. The teaser is a pitch tool to be used to secure funding for the feature film. We are not casting for the film itself. However, this is a chance to do some real acting with an experienced director and crew on an ambitious project. This project is unpaid, but should be a challenging and enjoyable one-day shoot and will make an exceptional addition to any reel. The characters we are casting for are:

RONNIE DERMOTT (24) - Just escaped from prison. A hard, severe kind of beauty. Been dealt a bad hand more than once and dealing with it the best she can.

DAVE WENDALL (28) - The corrections officer who helped Ronnie escape. Straight out of a recruitment poster -- linebacker shoulders and a just-smart-enough face.

ALAN DERMOTT (26) - Ronnie's shiftless older brother. Truck driver and part time drug dealer.

The shoot will be one day in mid to late august. Please send headshots and resumes to the email below. Links to online reels or work of any kind are extremely helpful.

PLEASE write with any questions as well.

Thank you!

An original, bilingual celebration of the Day of the Dead created by Martín Milagro

OCTOBER 18 to NOVEMBER 11, 2012

Every year, the dead are commemorated in Portland’s longest-running Día de los muertos celebration. This year, we unearth the interwoven roots of pre-Hispanic customs and traditions found at the juncture of life and death. Are we but dreaming and awake only when we die? Through music, dance and legend, we explore that thin veil that separates our world from the realm of our indigenous ancestors.

LA CELESTINA

A riotous tragicomedy adapted from Fernando de Rojas’ classic Spanish Golden Age novel

FEBRUARY 7 to MARCH 2, 2013

Presented in Spanish with easy-to-follow supertitles in English

In this bigger-than-life comedy, Calisto is a young and impulsive nobleman who's fallen madly in love with Melibea, the daughter of a rich businessman. But to win her over, the lovesick Calisto resorts to the less-than-pure magic of La Celestina, a bawdy sorceress whose scheming touches off a string of events with startling consequences. Dressed in Golden Age finery, this seriously funny critique of human nature remains as potent today as when it launched Spain’s literary renaissance in 1499.

GUAPA

A new play in English by Caridad Svich

MARCH 21 to APRIL 13, 2013

Single-mom Roly lives in a dusty Texas border town that everyone longs to escape. She’s never seen anything like Guapa, a natural-born athlete with a fiery ambition to become an international soccer star.  When Guapa joins Roly’s family, everyone’s life is turned upside down.  With only one shot to reach the big leagues from the barrio, how can Guapa convince the non-believers to let go of their doubts, spread their wings and fly?  This inspiring story will have you cheering in the aisles!

DANCE FOR A DOLLAR

World Premiere

An original dance theatre production created by Mariana Carreño King and Daniel Jáquez

MAY 2-25, 2013

New York City can be a lonely place. But there’s a little dance hall in Queens called Club Las Palmas, where a man can take the hand of a woman, embrace his culture and whirl away the cold.  In Las Palmas, the muchachas que bailan run the joint and serve up los hombres a little homestyle dignity. Check your worries at the door and feel your body come to life among the joyful sounds of duranguense, folklórico and cumbia!

AUDITION: Theatre Vertigo Seeks Teen Male Actor

Theatre Vertigo is accepting headshots and resumes for the role of Andrew in our winter production of The Velvet Sky, directed by Jane Bement Geesman. We are looking for a male actor between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age who can convincingly play 13 years old, and who is comfortable working with adults. This actor must be mature, intelligent, confident, and ready to work on a challenging, dark, and sometimes scary play with a cast and crew that will look out for him every step of the way.

Submission Guidelines: Material from minors must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian. Please send headshots and resumes to jenn@theatrevertigo.org. If you do not have a headshot and/or resume for your child, please send a recent photo and a written description of your child's onstage experience.

Rehearsal and Show Dates: The Velvet Sky goes into rehearsal at the beginning of January and rehearses Sunday through Thursday evenings from 7pm to 10pm. The show runs February 15th through March 16th, 2013, with 8pm performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

Pay: The project pays a $200 honorarium.

About the Play: The Velvet Sky is a dark, surreal story – along the lines of a scary folktale -- that blends fantasy and reality. Bethany Palmer hasn't slept in almost thirteen years; she is desperate to protect her son Andrew from the monster she calls The Sandman, and believes her nightly vigil will keep him safe. Only when Andrew turns 13 will he be safe, she believes, from this nighttime creature who preys on children. Bethany’s husband Warren, frustrated by his wife’s over-protective obsessiveness, runs off with their son in the middle of the night. Bethany is soon after them, but so is a menacing presence lurking in the shadows and behind closed doors. Chronicling Bethany's desperate search for her son through New York City, as well as the boy’s foray into the city’s darkest corners, The Velvet Sky is a dark fairytale for grown-ups, about the stories and lies adults tell children to keep them safe from the things that lurk in the dark. It is also a story about the love and connection between a mother and son who face head-on the darkest elements of their lives.

About the Role: Andrew is about to enter his teens and yearns to explore the world, even its darker aspects, on his own, away from the protective/probing eyes of his parents.  He heads off into the city, finding himself in a Port Authority restoom, an adult movie house, a dance club, and other unsavory, potentially dangerous locales. Andrew is exploring not only the world, but his own sexuality. He is pushing the limits of his curiosity as he encounters characters who would like nothing better than to take advantage of this young innocent. Despite getting himself into compromising, risky situations, Andrew is never touched, never harmed: The threat of danger is presented, and he gets away every time. By the play’s end, Andrew has retained much of his innocence, but, with his mother, faces a hard and surprising truth: that the greatest threat to his well-being is not in the dark recesses of the city or the mind, but right at home. It is his own father, not The Sandman, from whom he and his mother must flee.

About the Director: Jane Bement Geesman has been a professional actor, director, and teacher for almost three decades now, both here in Portland and in the Bay Area. She has often worked with young people, and is a parent herself. Jane appreciates the special skills of communication, patience, and encouragement required to work effectively with young actors.

Parental Involvement: Parents of the actor playing Andrew are welcome to attend rehearsals. We encourage a welcoming sense of openness, safety, and creativity.

Audition Details: Auditions for the role of Andrew will be held on an evening between September 4th and September 10th. Along with your child's headshot and resume, please send your availability for that time. Once we have received this information, we will send you the full script andaudition sides (scenes your child will read at the audition). Parents are more than welcome to read the full script before deciding whether or not their child will audition. Just ask!

Reply to:  Questions? Please don't hesitate to ask. All inquiries can be sent to Jenn Hunter at jenn@theatrevertigo.org.

Mark: The innocent "bowl of sunshine". He has always looked up to Matthew and is really, really glad that they are friends. Strong comedic instincts necessary. High Pop tenor. Ideally reads early 20s.

Abraham: The Jewish Altar Boy. Abe loves singing and dancing and, while he is perplexed as to why God told him to join a Christian Boyband, he faithfully gives it his all while still fully retaining his faith. He loves these guys and is accepted by them 100%. Pop Baritone/Tenor. Ideally reads mid to late 20s.

The Altar Boyz are bringing their Raise the Praise tour to Portland in spring 2013! God put the rhythm in Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham , and these heartthrobs want to praise the Lord with funk and rhyme! With lyrics like "Girl, you make me wanna wait" and "Jesus called me on my cell phone," this hilarious musical comedy will wash your soul clean with laughter.

Thanks!

Click the link to find out more about the festival. I am looking for two actors in their 20's or early 30's to play the following roles:

Actors Needed for Reading at Wild Goose Festival Sept. 2

Here's a brief description of the play:

The Jesus Fund

Liberal and conservative theologians square off in a dazzling display of verbal, theological and intellectual fireworks in this new play by Portland actor and playwright Terry Milner. On the verge of financial collapse, the venerable, progressive New Theological Seminary in New York City is targeted for a hostile takeover by a wealthy alumnus - the son of a famous televangelist - who offers to bail the school out, with some serious strings attached.

If you or someone you know are interested, please reply via email with headshot/resume by Tuesday, August 7. Compensation: free day pass to Wild Goose West on Sunday, Sept. 2 and round-trip transportation or reimbursement for the trip to Corvallis. Thank you so much.

Terry Milner

Actress wanted for Wednesday afternoon (PDX - St Johns)

I have a history of quick turn-around when it comes to editing; so, if you'd like to add to your professional reel without much delay, please do not hesitate to answer the call for an ACTRESS needed this Wednesday, from 2 PM to 5 PM. Also, any given night within two weeks in a professional sound studio for ADR (additional dialogue recording) would be a huge plus. If you have the means of driving to the North Portland location as well, that would be a big help.

If interested, reply with acting history in a nutshell (link to vids a bonus), and I'll send you a link to my channel. I've been making films for under two years but have been writing for well over a decade.

I can't pay at this juncture, but there will be snacks, worthwhile banter and future work if gelling occurs. Thank you.

Seeking Actor - Student Film

I am seeking a male actor to IMMEDIATELY fill a role for a short student production I am producing. With my production schedule I need to fill the character right away and have early Wednesday (August 8) set as my shooting date.
The film, tentatively titled "Trapped", follows a woman who has been trapped in her home by her husband and must face him in order to set herself free. The production will be a short film (approx. 5-7 mins.). I am looking to file the male role of the husband, Tom, which is a small role, but a significant one nonetheless. He is a sinister and yet charming character, in his mid-20s. Included in his acting performance in the film, he will have some voice over work as well.

Miracle Theatre Group, the Northwest’s premier Latino arts and culture organization, announces its 2012-2013 season featuring an exciting line-up of four Miracle MainStage productions, including three world premieres. Miracle Theatre Group’s 2012-2013 season includes:

RAÍZ
