Hiring Teaching Artists for Winter Session

Hi Everyone!

One of the ways to heal our culture is to start singing, dancing and telling stories together. It can start with the children, and you can be a part of it.

The Young Players, Oregon's largest drama outreach organization, is looking for teaching artists who love working with kids. We offer drama workshops at over a hundred schools. Our philosophy is that every child is an artist and an actor, and through theatre, they have a chance to explore their wild imaginations and appreciate their own creativity. The Young Players teaching team is comprised of amazingly talented, heartfelt actors/instructors. If chosen to join our team, you will love being a part of this organization.

Being an after-school and artist in residence instructor with Young Players is a part-time job and works well in concert with other endeavors. Teachers choose the days of the week they would like to work. Most classes happen between 2:00-4:00 in the afternoon. Classes run six to eight weeks.

A typical teaching schedule would be two/three days a week at different schools, repeating for six to eight weeks. Daytime residency opportunities may also become available, along with spring break and summer workshops. For winter 2011, most classes start the week of January 24th. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are the most likely days for new teachers to pick up classes.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least five years experience in theatre.
Five years experience teaching drama to kids OR
Masters degree in theatre OR
Current teaching certificate
Reliable transportation
Ability to work independently

I am interviewing certain qualified candidates on Friday, January 7th. I look forward to hearing from you!

National Anthem singer needed - January 8th

A local roller derby league is looking for a last-minute national anthem singer.

When: Saturday, January 8th
Where: Comcast Arena in Everett.
Time: You will need to check in at 4:30. Lights go up at 6:00.
Compensation: We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit so we cannot pay you, but can give you a comp ticket plus one, worth $30. We can likely plug your latest project over the PA.

Here's what we are looking for:
A TASTEFUL rendition of the national anthem by a singer with training.
Words MUST be correct - please google them.
Nerves of steel - there will be over 2000 people in attendance, the energy in the arena is amazing.

Because this is last minute, we'll need a youtube link or some other digital way of hearing you sing. The head of the production committee is a singer as well, so you don't need to send yourself doing the anthem, just something with good tone, pitch, and vibrato, even if it's a song of a genre other than classical. Any sample of you singing helps.

Thank you!!
