Casting for Comedy TV Series

We are currently producing a bi-weekly comedy/musical/variety series through MetroEast community television, and are casting new supporting roles. We need any age males and females with acting or other special talents (singing, stand-up comedy, magic tricks, etc.), and a variety of people to be extras or play non-regular speaking characters.

There is no pay (for any of us) on this project, but there may be payed opportunities available through this effort. If nothing else, it will be great for experience, exposure and fun.

If you might be interested in joining our team, please write back and let us know (a photo or two would be a nice touch, as well as a resume if you have one). No experience is necessary, so if we think you would be a good fit for what we are doing, we will arrange a meeting to discuss the project further. Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you!

We are looking for improvisers or actors with enthusiasm to portray broad, familiar, "reality show" types: The oversexed hottie, the straight-laced yuppie, the leader, mousy librarian, hipster/scenester, and of course aliens.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20th from 12-4 pm, each audition will run approximately half an hour. Call-backs will be held Monday, Nov. 22nd from 7:30pm-9:30pm.

Auditions for Tribute Theatre's Production of "The Serpent"

All levels of acting/dancing/movement experience are encouraged to audition!

Tribute Theatre is opening it's doors with Jean Claude Van Itallie's "The Serpent."

This play is a movement based play, focusing on the book of Genesis and the assassinations of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. Adam and Eve ate the fruit, gained the knowledge of good and evil and were cast out into the world to suffer pain, childbirth and death. We remember the negative of this transaction, but what of their profit? They (and the subsequent following human race) lost their innocence and ignorance and gained knowledge of the hardships of the world, but also the wonders of it.

This play will be approached non-denominationally, and is meant to explore danger going hand in hand with enlightenment. Rehearsals will take place January 4th through February 10th, with productions being performed the 11th, 12th and 13th. Auditions will be held 4-8pm on December 16th and 17th.

This project is self-funded, and actors will not be payed, but you'll get to work with lots of awesome people and take part in a truly exciting show!

Auditions for African American singers who can act

We're looking for THREE African American experienced singers, ages 25-40ish, with a strong voice and charisma who can perform in a jazz opera based in Portland during the post war era.

Open audition is noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Musicians Union Hall, 325 NE 20th Ave/Sandy. You are encouraged to bring an accompanist, though it is not essential. Come prepared to sing a range of songs from opera to jazz to rhythm and blues. The director is also an acting coach and will spend time coaching you, if necessary.

This RACC-funded production is titled Sherman: The Opera. The libretto is written by award-winning writer and former Oregonian columnist S. Renee Mitchell and the original score is by trumpeter and composer Thara Memory. Sherman will be staged during the last two weekends in February, for eight performances at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center. It will include a live band with some of the best jazz musicians in Portland. So, come prepared to work hard and learn a lot!

Conditions and Requirements:

1. Singers will be paid for their roles.

2. Time commitment is required for rehearsals during the months of November, December, January and early February 2011, and performances during the last two weeks in February.

There will be a pre-selection process after you audition. A final selection will guarantee the roles to the selected actors. If we can't find who we're looking for in Saturday's audition, then we will hold an additional open call. If you are interested, email Ken Dembo at kdembo65@comcast.net and include:

* name
* age
* email address
* phone number
* photo, or other info about yourself
* acting/singing resume

Thank you.

BACKGROUND: After the war, North Williams Avenue, also known as Black Broadway, became an entertainment strip where jazz ruled at all hours of the day and night in at least 10 clubs. The white middle class embraced the black music form – but only under the cover of night - as a form of indulgent entertainment into the darker underground sequestered by Jim Crow laws. Many jazz legends, i.e. Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald, performed in Portland as the black population, burgeoned during WWII to build war ships, brought their East Coast music to Portland.

During that time and years afterward, Sherman Thomas was considered to be THE city's most talented saxophone player. When he wrapped his full lips around the mouth of his saxophone, the fierceness of his notes electrified Portland's smoky jazz clubs, sending brown-skinned women's hips to swaying and married jazz lovers to make promises they couldn't keep.

In between sets, bartenders rewarded Sherman's musical expression with free drinks, drugs and trash talking. Over the years, Sherman's dance with his demons kept him in the streets. He could still deliver a gifted improvisational riff, drawn by his passion to release the notes still collecting in his head even when he was sleeping. But, the magic was sporadic, the shirt cuffs grew more frayed, and his promises less charming.

In the end, Sherman lost his hold on both of his loves – jazz music and his jazz-loving sweetheart, Marion. His body, weakened from dehydration, was found in the back alley of the Cleo-Lillian Social Club, Eventually, Sherman's presence, like his music, faded, leaving the memory of something missing, a sweet, familiar tune you couldn't quite remember but still can't get out of your head.

But in February 2011, Sherman is coming! Are you ready for the journey?
