This post contains auditions posted on Wednesday, January 09, 2013.

Thank you to those who have shared their goals for this coming year.  Sharing your goals may inspire others to do the same.  As we start off this new year, what are your goals for 2013?  What were your successes last year?  Share with the community in the chat box below.

EXTRAS NEEDED FOR SHORT FILM
Extras needed for a scene in a short film slated to be shot on February 5th, 2013 from 5pm-10pm.

The scene will involve a group of young women and men waiting outside of a venue to get an autograph from a female pop singer. They will attempt to crowd around her and be held back by her body guards as she gets into her limo.

The scene will be shot outside of The Montage under the Morrison bridge.

I am looking to cast men and women between the ages of 18 and 35 for these roles.

I am also looking to cast an actor to play one of her Body Guards. For this part I am looking for someone between the ages of 25 and 50 and I am open to casting a woman for this role

Here is some information about the film.

SYNOPSIS: The Second Coming is a dark love story about an escort who is trying to get out of the business who falls in love with a schizophrenic who thinks he is the Second Coming of Christ. It is a modern day version of the Jesus and Mary Magdelene story meets the film True Romance, which follows the heroes journey but takes the viewer into the twisted minds of the characters through surreal imagery and dreamscapes.

Please email me a little about yourself, a photo, and any acting experience you may have.

This is a no budget production with only minimal funds to pay for food, rentals, props, and permits.
Nobody is getting paid and everyone involved is doing this because they, like myself are artists and want more experience and footage for their reel.

What I can offer is that you are well fed, respected, credited, have a beautiful piece for your reel, multiple invitations to screenings, and some great experience for your future career as an actor.

Please feel free to view a trailer of my last film to see if this the kinda production you would like to participate in.

Actor needed for male lead in short film
Hi there. I'm an aspiring filmmaker and am casting for my first major project (possibly feature length). It is a critical drama that's pretty dialogue heavy, so I'm in need of actors with some solid experience. I don't need to see a lengthy filmography, but a some past film work would be nice. This is pretty low-budget, all out of pocket, so while I can't guarantee that this will be a paid gig, if I have the funds, I'll definitely pay. I actually have two big roles to fill, one more supportive than the other but still with a lot of screen time (both young adults18-25ish). If you are interested then email me a head shot and I will send you an excerpt of the short story version. I live in Newberg but have no problem traveling to Portland to meet up with you if you'd like to do a reading.

Oberon - The king of the fairies, Oberon is initially at odds with his wife, Titania. His desire for revenge on Titania leads him to send Puck to obtain the love-potion flower that creates so much of the play's confusion and farce. Age: none; looks "older and wiser", (40's +)
Titania - The beautiful queen of the fairies. Titania's brief, potion-induced love for Nick Bottom, whose head Puck has transformed into that of an ass, yields the play's foremost example of the contrast motif. Age: you never ask a lady her age; she's a timeless beauty. (30's-40s)

Theseus - The heroic duke of Athens, engaged to Hippolyta. Theseus represents power and order throughout the play. Age: 30's-40's
Hippolyta - The legendary queen of the Amazons, engaged to Theseus. Like Theseus, she symbolizes order. Age: reference Titania.
Nick Bottom - The overconfident weaver chosen to play Pyramus in the craftsmen's play for Theseus's marriage celebration. Age range: open

Robin Starveling - The tailor chosen to play Thisbe's mother in the craftsmen's play for Theseus's marriage celebration. He ends up playing the part of Moonshine. Age range: open

Actresses Wanted for short drama film (Portland)

I am currently a film student, doing independent film work in addition to school work as well, and am preparing to shoot a short film tentatively titled "Intersection", which follows a collection of female characters at different stages in their lives all approaching the same street intersection and whom are possibly on the verge of having a multi-car accident there. Each character has a legitimate reason for being distracted, which might make her responsible for an accident, and furthermore these characters are interconnected with one another. I am looking for actresses to fill in the roles of these various characters for which I have listed below. Each character has their own parts in the film, each of which will be approximately five minute segments.

CHARACTERS/SCENES:
ERIKA (20-30 years old) - a young woman working as a pizza delivery person who is caught up in the sluggishness of her life, which goes in conflict with her job which requires her to rush all around town making timely deliveries. As she reflects on her life, while in a rush, she is quite distracted.

NADINE (30-35 years old) - something of a "soccer mom" type character, who is very caught up in her busy life, which primarily focuses on her multiple children. Her greatest distraction is repeatedly having to check her cell phone, distracting her repeatedly.

GEENA (30-35 years old) - woman in a very unhappy and lifeless marriage of which she feels no happiness or spark from. Due to this she has to find her own ways to seek release in life. As she is out on a drive alone on a straightaway she tries to find some pleasure in speeding, which puts her in a dangerous place as she approaches the intersection.

ABBY & TORRY (both about 25 years old) - a young lesbian couple who have found themselves becoming listless together and are about to go out of town to try and spice up their rather young relationship. As they try and have a serious talk and connection they become distracted approaching the intersection.

CHELSEY (character is 16-17 years old, played by someone around 18-20 years of age) - a young driver on her way to a friends house after having a fight with her parents over the way she's been leading her young life. Distracted by inexperience and her exaggerated frustration at her parents.

LYNDSEY (20 years old) - An inexperienced driver without a license who borrows a friends car after another friend calls her with an emergency in which her help is needed. The simple fact that she is a poor driver, caught up in her friends recent emergency, makes her a liability out on the road.

LYDIA (20-25 years old) - has been in an abusive relationship for the past couple years and she has chosen this day to try and flee at all cost. She doesn't know until she's out on the road that her possessive boyfriend is aware of her efforts to try and get away.

The designer will work with the director as needed up through opening night, and be available as well for the Mar. 31 strike. Our technical advisor will also be available for advice or consultation.

This is a paid position.

("Bill W. and Dr. Bob" is also the production for which CoHo posted an audition announcement last week. We apologize for any confusion created by the omission of the production title in that post.)

Call for Directors

 Portland Actors Ensemble
2013 Shakespeare-in-the-Parks

Portland Actors Ensemble seeks directors for its summer 2013 Shakespeare-in-the-Parks season featuring "problem plays" The Merchant of Venice and Cymbeline. Directors are invited to submit proposals for one or both shows. The Merchant of Venice, our twilight show, is scheduled to begin rehearsals in early May, open mid-June, and run through late July. The touring production of Cymbeline is scheduled to begin rehearsals in late May or early June, open in late July and run through Labor Day.

PAE has been bringing free Shakespeare to Portland area audiences for over forty years. PAE is committed to providing financially-accessible classical theatre in a variety of locations. Our tradition is to embrace the natural beauty of the area, rather than to attempt to recreate an indoor production outside. Some performances will be ASL-interpreted and audio-described. Last season's Hamlet and Twelfth Night were among our most successful shows ever.

We are considering primary performance locations for Merchant, and potential directors are invited to propose an outdoor (or non-traditional theatre space) location in the Portland area. Previous Twilight Tragedy performances have occurred at Lovejoy Fountain, Cathedral Park, Lone Fir Cemetery, and at the top of Mount Tabor. The touring production of Cymbeline will visit a variety of parks and universities around the Portland area and Maryhill Museum in the gorge.

Directors will be paid $1,000. If you have not worked with, or seen a production by PAE before, please feel free to visit our website at www.portlandactors.org or reach us at portlandactors@gmail.com for more information about our company, mission, and tradition.

Below are some areas to cover in your proposal. Feel free to explore and expand, however be sure to cover at least these topics:
What will the rehearsal process be like? How long?
What are the dominant themes you are emphasizing? How will the controversial themes (if any) be addressed?
What is your approach to the text itself? What's staying, what's being moved or compressed and what's going away? Is there extra material you're bringing in? We don't need line-by-line, but more on a scenic level.
What's your casting approach (gender, age, etc)? Cast size? Doubling? Consolidating characters?
What sort of design elements (Costume/Set/Movement, et al.) do you imagine?
What's your preferred allocation of budget (this can be done in terms of % if you prefer)?
In what time period do you plan to place your play? Do you plan to do a "concept" show? If so, what is it?

Merchant-specific topics:
How would you deal with anti-Semitic themes?
Cymbeline-specific topics:
Twins? Complexity of story?

Please include a resume with your proposal.
Proposals should be submitted to portlandactors@gmail.com, or by postal mail to Portland Actors Ensemble, PO BOX 8671, Portland, OR 97207. Email submission is preferred.

The deadlines for proposals:
Merchant of Venice: January 6, 2013
Cymbeline: January 20, 2013

Good Will for all,
Michael Godsey
Artistic Director
Portland Actors Ensemble
