Bag&Baggage Productions, a professional theatre company in Hillsboro,, is pleased to announce auditions for an upcoming production: The Merry Wives of Windsor, or The Amorous Adventures of the Comical Knight Sir John Falstaff, adapted and directed by Scott Palmer.  John Dennis (a relatively unknown playwright from the Restoration period) wrote his adaptation of Shakespeare’s Merry Wives in 1647...only one copy of the script still exists, and Bag&Baggage has found it! Artistic Director Scott Palmer has combined Shakespeare’s classic romantic romp with Dennis’ trimmed-down, fast paced adaptation, added a few of his own surprises, and created our very own world premiere: The Merry Wives of Windsor or the Amorous Adventures of the Comical Knight Sir John Falstaff!

We will be casting actors for the following roles:

Messr. Ford (age 35+, M)
Messr. Page (age 35+, M)
Slender (tall, slender, age 18+, M)
The Host (comedic, age 25+, M)
Dr. Caius (French accent, age 25+, M)
*The roles of Sir John Falstaff, Mistress Ford, Mistress Page, Mistress Quickly, and Fenton have been pre-cast.
Actors will receive a $500 - $600 (depending on role) stipend after the close of the show.

Performance dates are: March 7 – 24, 2013.  All performances will be at the Venetian Theatre in downtown Hillsboro.  Rehearsals for this production begin January 19, 2013.

Auditions will be held in Hillsboro Saturday January 5 (noon to 4pm), with the possibility of overflow and/or callbacks scheduled on Sunday January 6 (1:30pm to 5:00pm). We are not able to accommodate alternative audition times. To be considered for an audition slot, actors should have previous professional experience, have access to reliable transportation, and be available and willing to rehearse and perform in Hillsboro.

To be considered for an audition slot, please send an electronic resume in PC format (Word or PDF format) and attached headshot (JPG format) to ASAP but no later than January 3, 2013.  Actors selected for auditions will be contacted to arrange an audition time. All actors should come prepared with two contrasting Shakespeare (or contemporary of Shakespeare) monologues not longer than 2 minutes total. Please ensure that your monologue choices are age and character appropriate.

Thanks! We look forward to hearing from you!

"Mousetrap" at Sandy Actor's Theatre auditions

Saturday, January 5, 2013

1 PM to 4 PM
Sandy Actors Theatre
14733 Meinig Ave. (behind Ace Hardware)
Sandy, OR 97055

The Mousetrap, by Agatha Christie
Performance dates: April 5 through April 28
Directed by Doug Holtry

At Monkswell Manor, the news on the radio reports a murder has recently taken place in London. Mollie and Giles Ralston, the young owners of the once-regal estate recently converted into a guesthouse, hardly notice the news. They are far too busy preparing for the arrival of their first guests and concerned the heavy snowfalls may prevent the guests reaching their destination. As the guests arrive safely and the Manor becomes snowed in, a policeman arrives on skis suspecting one of the seven occupants may be the killer. After a second murder occurs in the Manor, Sergeant Trotter is convinced.

Suspects include the young married couple, a spinster with a curious background, an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef, a retired army major, and an unexpected visitor who claims his car has run into a snowdrift. During his interrogation, Sergeant Trotter uncovers the many mysterious secrets of everyone present, as he tries to solve the murder in true Christie style.

All roles available

NOTE: Auditions will be cold readings from the scripts. However, headshots, resumes, and/or monologues are welcome, but not required. (If you have a prepared monologue, you will be given the opportunity to share it as an additional basis for consideration.) All are welcome and no experience is necessary.

Casting Call for Short Film

Sway of the Knife, a short film by local writer/director, Vu Pham, is casting for the following roles:

Tommy: 25-30 years old, Caucasian, male, pudgy, greasy, carries an asshole streak with pride. Tommy is a hipster-bar owner whose main preoccupations are chasing tail, drinking, ingesting substances of every shape and size, preaching the opposite of what he does, and revering dead white men who were some how "legendary" for doing such things.

Eric: 30-40 years old, Caucasian, male, average build. Midwestern raised, latter Oregon transplant regular boozer at Tommy's bar. He's been single for four years but touts it as a badge of masculine honor as opposed to the painful affliction that it truly is. Stubborn, prideful, stupid at times, but ultimately loyal and just.

Brian: 30-40 years old, Caucasian, male, rugged good looks. Brian is an extremely funny and charismatic character whose gregarious and unassuming nature generally wins him friends from all walks of life. Enjoys football, beer, Bukowski, and 18-23 year old girls; loves his mother more than anything in the world and often writes poetry for her.

Bartender: 25-30 years old, African-American, male. One of the main bartenders at Tommy's Bar; has more attitude than he knows what to do with, rushes for no one, and loves disaster news.

Gallery Employee: 20-30 years old, Caucasian, male, average build. Jessica's coworker at a downtown art gallery. He is simultaneously secretly in love with Jessica and stricken by a sexual orientation crisis.

Alternative Gallery Employee: 20-30 year old, Caucasian, female.  Jessica's best friend and coworker.  She is smart, artistic, and very neurotic.  Likes to observe people from afar and dissect them with her unforgiving critical acumen for entertainment but will never reveal her hand.

These roles are volunteer. However, we can promise that you'll be treated with the utmost respect and professionalism, be well fed, given proper credit for your work, have something of professional quality for your reel, and be participant in a unique project of merit with outstanding potential for festival attention.

Sunday, 1/6, 4-8PM
Monday, 1/7, 10AM-1PM

HART is a volunteer-based community theatre. There are no stipends of any kind for the actors.

Character List
Puck - Also known as Robin Goodfellow, Puck is Oberon's jester, a mischievous fairy who delights in playing pranks on mortals. Age: none; youthful-looking and agile
Oberon - The king of the fairies, Oberon is initially at odds with his wife, Titania. His desire for revenge on Titania leads him to send Puck to obtain the love-potion flower that creates so much of the play's confusion and farce. Age: none; looks "older and wiser", (40's +)
Titania - The beautiful queen of the fairies. Titania's brief, potion-induced love for Nick Bottom, whose head Puck has transformed into that of an ass, yields the play's foremost example of the contrast motif. Age: you never ask a lady her age; she's a timeless beauty. (30's-40s)
Lysander - A young man of Athens, in love with Hermia. Lysander becomes the victim of misapplied magic and wakes up in love with Helena. Age: 20's
Demetrius - A young man of Athens, initially in love with Hermia and ultimately in love with Helena. Age: 20's
Hermia - Egeus's daughter, a young woman of Athens. Hermia is in love with Lysander and is a childhood friend of Helena. As a result of the fairies' mischief with Oberon's love potion, both Lysander and Demetrius suddenly fall in love with Helena. Age: 20's
Helena - A young woman of Athens, in love with Demetrius. Demetrius and Helena were once betrothed, but when Demetrius met Helena's friend Hermia, he fell in love with her and abandoned Helena. Age: 20's
Egeus - Hermia's father, who brings a complaint against his daughter to Theseus: Egeus has given Demetrius permission to marry Hermia, but Hermia, in love with Lysander, refuses to marry Demetrius. Age: 45+
Theseus - The heroic duke of Athens, engaged to Hippolyta. Theseus represents power and order throughout the play. Age: 30's-40's
Hippolyta - The legendary queen of the Amazons, engaged to Theseus. Like Theseus, she symbolizes order. Age: reference Titania.
Nick Bottom - The overconfident weaver chosen to play Pyramus in the craftsmen's play for Theseus's marriage celebration. Age range: open
Peter Quince - A carpenter and the nominal leader of the craftsmen's attempt to put on a play for Theseus's marriage celebration. During the craftsmen's play, Quince plays the Prologue. Age range: open
Francis Flute - The bellows-mender chosen to play Thisbe in the craftsmen's play for Theseus's marriage celebration. Age range: open, but younger than the others
Robin Starveling - The tailor chosen to play Thisbe's mother in the craftsmen's play for Theseus's marriage celebration. He ends up playing the part of Moonshine. Age range: open
Tom Snout - The tinker chosen to play Pyramus's father in the craftsmen's play for Theseus's marriage celebration. He ends up playing the part of Wall, dividing the two lovers. Age range: open
Snug - The joiner chosen to play the lion in the craftsmen's play for Theseus's marriage celebration. Age range: open
Philostrate - Theseus's Master of the Revels, responsible for organizing the entertainment for the duke's marriage celebration. Age: open, (played by Egeus)

Actresses Wanted for short drama film (Portland)

I am currently a film student, doing independent film work in addition to school work as well, and am preparing to shoot a short film tentatively titled "Intersection", which follows a collection of female characters at different stages in their lives all approaching the same street intersection and whom are possibly on the verge of having a multi-car accident there. Each character has a legitimate reason for being distracted, which might make her responsible for an accident, and furthermore these characters are interconnected with one another. I am looking for actresses to fill in the roles of these various characters for which I have listed below. Each character has their own parts in the film, each of which will be approximately five minute segments.

ERIKA (20-30 years old) - a young woman working as a pizza delivery person who is caught up in the sluggishness of her life, which goes in conflict with her job which requires her to rush all around town making timely deliveries. As she reflects on her life, while in a rush, she is quite distracted.

NADINE (30-35 years old) - something of a "soccer mom" type character, who is very caught up in her busy life, which primarily focuses on her multiple children. Her greatest distraction is repeatedly having to check her cell phone, distracting her repeatedly.

GEENA (30-35 years old) - woman in a very unhappy and lifeless marriage of which she feels no happiness or spark from. Due to this she has to find her own ways to seek release in life. As she is out on a drive alone on a straightaway she tries to find some pleasure in speeding, which puts her in a dangerous place as she approaches the intersection.

ABBY & TORRY (both about 25 years old) - a young lesbian couple who have found themselves becoming listless together and are about to go out of town to try and spice up their rather young relationship. As they try and have a serious talk and connection they become distracted approaching the intersection.

CHELSEY (character is 16-17 years old, played by someone around 18-20 years of age) - a young driver on her way to a friends house after having a fight with her parents over the way she's been leading her young life. Distracted by inexperience and her exaggerated frustration at her parents.

LYNDSEY (20 years old) - An inexperienced driver without a license who borrows a friends car after another friend calls her with an emergency in which her help is needed. The simple fact that she is a poor driver, caught up in her friends recent emergency, makes her a liability out on the road.

LYDIA (20-25 years old) - has been in an abusive relationship for the past couple years and she has chosen this day to try and flee at all cost. She doesn't know until she's out on the road that her possessive boyfriend is aware of her efforts to try and get away.

Melodrama was a mainstay of early American theatre, dominating the American stage from 1850 until the early 1900s. These are stories of virtue, with good conquering evil and always leading to a happy ending. The action is characterized by over-the-top emotions and exaggerated characters. Crowds love to boo the Villain, cheer the Hero and Heroine, and laugh at the Fool. All these stock characters and more have been transplanted to the deep swamps of Louisiana for the show at Mask & Mirror.

Call for Directors

 Portland Actors Ensemble
2013 Shakespeare-in-the-Parks

Portland Actors Ensemble seeks directors for its summer 2013 Shakespeare-in-the-Parks season featuring "problem plays" The Merchant of Venice and Cymbeline. Directors are invited to submit proposals for one or both shows. The Merchant of Venice, our twilight show, is scheduled to begin rehearsals in early May, open mid-June, and run through late July. The touring production of Cymbeline is scheduled to begin rehearsals in late May or early June, open in late July and run through Labor Day.

PAE has been bringing free Shakespeare to Portland area audiences for over forty years. PAE is committed to providing financially-accessible classical theatre in a variety of locations. Our tradition is to embrace the natural beauty of the area, rather than to attempt to recreate an indoor production outside. Some performances will be ASL-interpreted and audio-described. Last season's Hamlet and Twelfth Night were among our most successful shows ever.

We are considering primary performance locations for Merchant, and potential directors are invited to propose an outdoor (or non-traditional theatre space) location in the Portland area. Previous Twilight Tragedy performances have occurred at Lovejoy Fountain, Cathedral Park, Lone Fir Cemetery, and at the top of Mount Tabor. The touring production of Cymbeline will visit a variety of parks and universities around the Portland area and Maryhill Museum in the gorge.

Directors will be paid $1,000. If you have not worked with, or seen a production by PAE before, please feel free to visit our website at or reach us at for more information about our company, mission, and tradition.

Below are some areas to cover in your proposal. Feel free to explore and expand, however be sure to cover at least these topics:
What will the rehearsal process be like? How long?
What are the dominant themes you are emphasizing? How will the controversial themes (if any) be addressed?
What is your approach to the text itself? What's staying, what's being moved or compressed and what's going away? Is there extra material you're bringing in? We don't need line-by-line, but more on a scenic level.
What's your casting approach (gender, age, etc)? Cast size? Doubling? Consolidating characters?
What sort of design elements (Costume/Set/Movement, et al.) do you imagine?
What's your preferred allocation of budget (this can be done in terms of % if you prefer)?
In what time period do you plan to place your play? Do you plan to do a "concept" show? If so, what is it?

Merchant-specific topics:
How would you deal with anti-Semitic themes?
Cymbeline-specific topics:
Twins? Complexity of story?

Please include a resume with your proposal.
Proposals should be submitted to, or by postal mail to Portland Actors Ensemble, PO BOX 8671, Portland, OR 97207. Email submission is preferred.

The deadlines for proposals:
Merchant of Venice: January 6, 2013
Cymbeline: January 20, 2013

Good Will for all,

Applications for the 30th annual Hemsley Internship Program will be accepted from January 1- 15, 2013. Interviews for finalists will be held in New York on March 16, 2013 in conjunction with the Hemsley Lighting Portfolio Review on March 16 - 17, 2013.

Candidates should submit a resume, a one-page statement of personal goals and anticipated benefits from the internship, and three letters of recommendation. The selected intern will begin in June 2013 and continue until the end of February 2014. The internship provides the opportunity to work in a professional repertory situation with resident and guest designers. This year's companies include the Lincoln Center Festival, San Francisco Opera, New York City Ballet, and Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre. Additional opportunities may include touring and media events. A monthly stipend of $2,000 is provided in addition to travel expenses. Digital or paper applications are accepted.

Gilbert Hemsley dedicated his life to the training of young theater professionals. Beginning with the first intern in 1984, the internship has continued his legacy by offering a unique experience to young designers as they begin their professional careers.

NEED MAKEUP AND HAIR STYLIST FOR SHORT FILMI am currently looking for a make up and hair artist for a film I am beginning production for on February 5th through mid March 2013 and will need someone once a week during this time period for half a shoot day. I don't necessarily need someone with alot of experience but someone who has a passion and knack for doing make up and hair.

Here is some information about the film.

SYNOPSIS: The Second Coming is a dark love story about a escort who is trying to get out of the business who falls in love with a schizophrenic who thinks he is the Second Coming of Christ. It is a modern day version of the Jesus and Mary Magdelene story meets the film True Romance, which follows the heroes journey but takes the viewer into the twisted minds of the characters through surreal imagery and dreamscapes.

Please email me a little about yourself and experience, and a demo reel or pictures of your work (if you have some)

This is a no budget production with only minimal funds to pay for food, rentals, props, and permits.
Nobody is getting paid and everyone involved is doing this because they, like myself are artists and want more experience and footage for their reel.

What I can offer is that you are well fed, respected, credited, have a beautiful piece for your reel, multiple invitations to screenings, connections with those working in the industry and some great experience for your future career as a make up artist.

Of Course I will pay for all transportation costs and make up supplies.

Please feel free to view a trailer of my last film to see if this the kinda production you would like to participate in.

I look forward to meeting with you and hopefully working with you.

-D.R. Garrett

TIME: 5:00pm - 7:00pm (if you can stay all night for touch-ups that would be wonderful!)
