Position Summary
Young Actor Monitor is a non-exempt, temporary position. She/he is responsible for the supervision, welfare, safety and management of all Young Actors during the rehearsals and performances of the upcoming production of A Christmas Story (November 1st through December 24th)
Essential Responsibilities
• Meet Young Actors in the lobby when dropped off, and deliver them to their parents at the end of rehearsal/performances.
• Attend daily rehearsals for which Young Actors members are called, as scheduled.
• Attend all technical rehearsals and performances.
• Provide supervision during meal breaks, and escort to local food establishments as needed.
• Make sure Young Actors are focused during rehearsals and have the necessary materials (script, score, appropriate shoes, binder, pencil).
• Ensure that Young Actors bring a quiet activity for down time.
• Review with the Young Actors their lines, blocking, cues, music, and choreography.
• Help Young Actors feel included, safe, and comfortable in the rehearsal/performance environment. Keep them from distracting other actors during rehearsals and performances.
• Work with the Wardrobe Supervisor to coordinate the preparation, dressing and quick changes of the Young Actors' costumes.
• Assist Young Actors with getting into costumes, hair and make-up, and perform quick changes as necessary.
• Escort Young Performer to and from the stage for all entrances and exits.
• On performance days, if the Young Actors have a break of one and a half hours or less during their call, you should plan to stay and watch them during that break.
• Teach Young Actors theatre and backstage protocol and etiquette. Enforce protocol and etiquette.
• Abide by all rules and regulations put forth by Portland Center Stage, specifically those concerning Young Actors.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Previous experience working with children.
• Stage Management and/or teaching experience a plus
• Understanding of theatrical rehearsal procedures and performance etiquette
• Must submit to a background check
Skills and Knowledge
• Ability to work within a professional production environment
• Ability to work with parents and children
• Ability to give directions to children and maintain order
• Ability to work within a team setting
• Willingness to follow directions and procedures
• Ability to handle stress
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Salary
• $12/Hourly rate plus overtime.

Bricks 4 Kidz is an innovative educational program teaching children using LEGO! We are currently looking for instructors for our hands-on after school programs. The piece, tentatively titled "Our Worlds Collide", begins with Kayleen, who's life has been at a crossroads since recently admitting to being gay. While homosexuality plays its part in the piece it is a very emotionally driven and dimensional than that and is more about two young people trying to see the world in new ways.
