Auditions: Monday, February 28, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Monday, February 28, 2011.

As we come to the end of the month, I wanted to revisit a brief discussion that we had in the chat box regarding working for little or no pay. An article is circulating the world of Facebook, and I felt it was worth mentioning. This well written article reviews situations we typically encounter as artists, and outlines when it may be okay to work for no monetary compensation.

With March kicking off what is said to be a very busy Spring for the Portland film world, let's discuss when it has benefited you to work for no monetary compensation, and whether it is something you ever choose to do.

I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts and feedback on this!

If you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Actress Needed for Sunday Feature

Hey All,

Looking to cast the role of a red haired woman for a shoot date this Sunday. This character is very spot on with her words and seemingly drunken demeanour (not really drunk for the scene in question), as someone who has an in of sorts with the goings on of the city's lead newspaper and all that they cover. This will be the longest of scenes for the character, the opener for her actual person aswell. No pay this round, but a chance to hone some odd lines made feature. The shoot is from 3 PM until 8 PM. The film is called MoonPi. You can watch the trailer at youtube by typing in, "The Official MoonPi Trailer." Hope to hear from you soon. Please send whatever you feel is necessary; headshot, resume, reel, etc. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Montetré

Seeking actors for low-budget commercial

Wanna be in a commercial? Can you be flexible with your schedule? We have 2 commercials to shoot sometime in the first week of March, "weather permitting", which means we probably won't know exactly when we're going to shoot until the day of the shoot or maybe the day before. We're looking for the following parts:
- Aunt Pauline - matronly aunt type
- Couple, late 20s-early 30s.
- Inlaws. Man and woman in mid 50s

These are non-speaking roles.

I mentioned this is low budget, but there IS pay for this gig. We'll pay $50 for up to 5 hours, $100 for anything over 5 hours (no more than 10). It's not much, but it's all we have. Plus you'll get fed.

If you're interested, please respond with a RECENT PHOTOGRAPH and contact information. It's essential that your schedule be flexible!

Auditions: Friday, February 25, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Friday, February 25, 2011.

We have made it to Friday, and for some out there, it will be another snow day! I learned that many auditions were canceled yesterday due to weather. Folks are starting to get auditions for Leverage, and are spreading the word about a new NBC Pilot being filmed in Portland, Oregon.

The questions have been presented to me regarding how one would get an audition for Leverage, and I would assume these are coming in through agencies. However, I have an acquaintance who isn't represented, but was called in for a Leverage casting. This made me wonder...how did they nail that? Unfortunately, I don't know this acquaintance well enough to ask, but I do know they are very bold, and may have learned details about the casting and either just showed up, or contacted the casting director directly to inquire about auditioning. I am taking notes on becoming more forward in this industry in Portland, but in bigger cities, that is what an agent is for.

We have discussed the importance of networking, and attending networking events. Does having a drink with the right person move you forward in your career?

Let's continue this, and the week's very interesting discussions in the chat box below!

If you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Filming for They're Here this Saturday

I need some extras. No pay, but I'll provide sandwich makings and water.

I still also need at least one more Secret Service Agent/Mental Health worker. Must have dark suit and all white outfit: much like scrubs. There's one line from one of these guys (could be female, though), but nothing huge.

I also need two younger females for two scenes. It would be nice if one was quite short. She has to try to get her ET doll back from another girl, who stands about 5'2". Dress geeky. You can go as stereotypical as you want.

I'll be shooting a few scenes on a different day and will need one African-American male, and one willing to wear a tutu... must be willing to skewer stereotypes of hate groups.

Email me off list if you're interested in doing any of the roles with lines. Same goes for being extras. the call time for the Agents/Aides is 11am, and the two girls it's 2pm. Call time for extras is also 2pm. I need at least 5-10 extras.

Address is 1221 NW 11th Ave in Portland. Easy via transit, parking is street and you do have to pay. I may be able to help a little in that regard, but not a lot.

Auditions: Thursday, February 24, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Thursday, February 24, 2011.

For some, it's a snow day. For others, it's not. This week, there have been some very interesting topics of discussion in the chat box, including auditions being posted with very short notice, inappropriate audition experiences, and involvement with the 48 Hour Film Projects.

I would love to keep this discussion going! Please continue to share thoughts and theories on why people hold auditions with such short notice to actors. Also discuss whether you have had any strange audition experiences because of the location or unprofessional behavior at the audition. If you were involved with the 48 Hour Film projects, we'd love to hear all about that!

Let's continue these very interesting discussions in the chat box below!

Auditions: Wednesday, February 23, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Wednesday, February 23, 2011.

It was mentioned this week that someone experienced a very inappropriate audition experience, and this is not common in Portland, but can happen in any city. There are red flags to look for when submitting your information for an audition. Never include your home address on a resume, as this puts personal information out to the public that could put you at risk. Always make sure that the audition is held at a public place, whether it be a coffee shop, business/office, library, or hotel conference room.
Also, always let someone, a roommate, sibling, spouse, or parent know the address of your audition, and audition details for safety reasons.

I have been to auditions at people's homes, which is more common in smaller cities than in larger cities, but this can still be an unsafe environment. It is always okay to ask to bring a friend to an audition at someone's home. In the past, I have scheduled auditions, and when I plugged the address into google, I found that the audition is taking place at someone's home. I immediately contacted the casting director to let them know that I felt uncomfortable about auditioning at their home, and they have allowed me to bring a friend, or have arranged to meet me at a public place. A professional casting director would want you to feel comfortable auditioning for them.

Have you ever had a bad audition experience based on the location? Let's continue the discussion in the chat box below!

If you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Female Talent Needed - Mockumercial

Local director seeking 1 female to play the role of the wife in a self-produced mockumercial. Ages don't matter to me as much as chemistry and our ability to work together. Expect the shoot to take about a few hours. I'm planning to shoot anytime this weekend, depending on schedules. This is a non-paying gig but should be a good project to add to your reel.

Please reply to this posting with a photo and brief bio.

Looking for actor and actress for short film

I am putting together a short student film and looking for an actor and actress to play the lead roles. The film deals with a young couple (characters are roughly 20 years in age) wherein the boyfriend has been unfaithful, and chronicles the two while the boyfriend is writing a letter asking for forgiveness and the girl is writing a letter expressing her desire to break up simultaneously. No experience is necessary, good role for someone who wants to play thoughtful characters.

Low Budget Feature Length Film Seeks Actors & Actresses

Have you seen Christopher Nolan's Following? or Jim Jarmusch's Stranger Than Paradise? If you love those kind of movies, dark, inspiring and full of emotion please continue to read on...
I am looking for actors & actresses for my new film I'm shooting, the film is a story about a young adults journey into darkness, investigating his friends death leads him into a world he never knew existed and at some point he becomes one of them.

THE ROLES:
Male, 19-26, Main Character, He's a quiet storm, talks with his facial emotions and affects with his words, he builds as the film progresses.

Male, 19-26, Supporting, He is the MC close lad, He's crazy, scary, have little respect for himself, but by the end he'll figure himself out (STRONG EMOTION NEEDED)

Woman, 19-26, Supporting, She is not a love interest, but a deceiver.

To sum everything up this film is something different, The look, the music, the story, it's a view of someone's journey through a way that I guarantee you've never seen before, it's a telling of a generation of people that live for the darkness in life. The film will be shot in Black and White for artistic purposes, this is a Super Low Budget film, however, If the stars work on my side and I see success, A Royalty will definitely be setup for all involved. I am pushing for Film Festivals, Theater Showings, Newspaper Reviews, and recently got an exec at HBO interested in the film. So you have seen Following? Please understand my budget is small but I have managed to acquire the equipment and crew to make a diamond. Currently I am seeking more investors to pay my actors and actresses, but until they cough up the funding :) it's No Pay. Keep in mind that will most likely change.

Thank You For Reading, Please Send Headshot and Resume - Thank You Again.

OPEN CASTING/CALL BACK STYLE FEMALE ACTRESS 20's SUN 27th 1pm

Hi this is Hollie and I am the writer and producer of a short called PILLOW FIGHT. Chris Wilson will be directing of We'll Fix It In Post Productions.

Things you should know. This is a short about an epic pillow fight and while we want attractive girls and clothing, keep in mind we are not talking ANY nudity, more like boy shorts and a tank top and if someone is okay with bra and panties,(FULL bottom not a thong) that is cool IF they want. I will be on set as will the wife of the martial arts/stunt co-ordinator and the girlfriend of our grip.

While this short is fun and comedic it will have great production value and be something that you would be able to put on your demo reel, showing action fight sequences is very strong content for getting other film work. This short will earn you an IMDb credit and be submitted to festivals. You will receive a nicely professionally packaged DVD in a very reasonable amount of time and a video file for your own reels. There is no pay, but you will be fed on set.

Chris Wilson is a fantastic talent and his short film James Vs Reality just won an LA film festival and he and I will be flying down to LA for the awards banquet on March 4th, we are wanting to get the casting done before we leave. His other animation work has won two festivals last year and he is artist of the month right now at renderosity.com which is a pro site for 3D work and more.

While I wrote the story line for Pillow Fight and producing it, I will also be the assistant director on set. I own Livid Stick Productions and two of my short films have been accepted to 8 festivals each and counting. In fact this Saturday both Chris and I will be going to Salem for the Mid-Valley Fest where my most recent short, The Grade will be showing at 4pm and James Vs Reality will be showing at 8:30pm.

At the bottom of this post I included links to some of our work so that you can see we do finish a good product.

The auditions will be THIS SUN the 27th at 1pm at our property where we have a large shop/studio where we will build the set. The stunt fighter will be here and the auditions will be in a call back style where you all will pair up and read together. We will also run you through some choreography. There will be water and snacks provided. Reply for address and directions when you submit a headshot and resume. Looking for girls with martial arts background if possible.
Please if you plan to attend I need you to confirm through this post back to me then I will send auditions sides for you to learn a few quick lines. And please check out the links below.
