One of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years, URINETOWN is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, URINETOWN is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, URINETOWN catapults the “comedic romp” into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit, and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

Hope Cladwell - Cladwell's completely innocent and ravishingly beautiful daughter, torn between her love for her father and her new love for Bobby. A parody of the stereotypical Broadway ingenue. 18 to 25. Soprano.

Caldwell B. Cladwell - The president and owner of the Urine Good Company, a miserly money-grubber who gleefully exploits the poor with his outrageous toilet fees. 40 to 60. Baritone.

Bobby Strong - The dashing, noble young everyman who works for Miss Pennywise at the poorest, filthiest urinal in town; the eventual protagonist and romantic hero who starts a revolution, and falls in love with Hope Cladwell along the way. 20 to 30. Tenor.

Penelope Pennywise The tough, jaded warden of the poorest, filthiest urinal in town. A shrewd, penny-scrounging cheapskate, Pennywise is a figure of authority and lives to maintain order at the public bathrooms. However, she has a deep, dark secret in her past that somehow involves Hope. 40 to 60. Belting Alto/Mezzo.

Officer Lockstock - Tongue-in-cheek narrator of the story. A corrupt policeman who secretly kills off guilty peers.30 to 50. Baritone.

Little Sally - A precocious, thoroughly irreverent and smartly funny street urchin; the narrator who always outsmarts Lockstock, and constantly questions the play's logic. 16 to 25. Mezzo.

Officer Barrel - Lockstock's partner. Harbors a surprising secret. 25 to 50. Baritone.

Little Becky - One of the Poor; foul-mouthed, impulsive, pregnant, and suffering Two-Shoes from polio. 16 to 30. Belting Alto.

Mr. McQueen - Cladwell's sycophantic assistant/lackey. The ultimate Yes Man. 25 to 40. Tenor

Joseph "Old Man" Strong - Bobby's rebellious father, whose refusal to pay the fee causes him to be sent to Urinetown, ultimately launching the revolution. 40 to 60.

Josephine "Ma" Strong - Bobby's mother, a strong-willed old woman who is able to withstand the hard hand life has dealt her. 40 to 60.

Hot Blades Harry - One of the Poor, a psychopathic, violent loose cannon. 20 to 40.

Ensemble - The Rebels, Police, UGC Executives.

Cyclists/Actors Casting for a Feature Length Film (Portland)

I am a local writer/director doing the first round of casting for my first feature length film to be shot this year in Portland, OR and other locations throughout the county.

I am looking for cyclists!
The film is a drama/comedy about a fictional America Lanterne Rouge of the Tour de France and his two friends on a cross-country bike ride (D.C. to PDX). So I am looking for riders who are capable of riding 100+ miles on consecutive days. It may not be necessary but there is going to be a lot of cycling in the film and you will need to be in shape.

Actors:
If you are an actor and not necessarily a cyclist then you must be athletic and lean, this role is for a former professional cyclist and there is simply no cheating that athleticism and that look. I prefer stage Actors with improv backgrounds, but obviously if you have an interest in this project and material then you will be welcomed.

The Hard Sell:
This will be a micro budget film. Meaning, there will be no pay. However, with a small crew and a few actors we will all be collaborators in this process and we will all reap whatever financial benefits the film is able to generate. I will be crowdsourcing the films funding for $30K. The vast majority of that money will be used for equipment and for travel. The primary qualifications for anyone involved in this project will be 1) Passion and 2) Commitment. This will be a difficult, fun, challenging endeavor and the only way it is going to work is if we are all committed to its completion. I am perfectly happy to work with non-actors who have a passion for cycling and a desire to be apart of the project. We will be doing filming on weekends, weekdays, nights and around everyones work schedules. For the D.C. and travel portions of the film we will be actually going to these places so time off of work will be required. My only goals for this entire project are 1) Complete the film 2) Make another film.

If you are interested in working on this project and auditioning for one of the primary rolls please reply to this ad. From there I can answer questions and we can meet and do some readings and decide if we would like to plunge into this together.
