This page contains auditions posted on Wednesday, May 04, 2011.
This year is flying by, and May has arrived! With the start of this new month, and the popularity picking up for film in Portland, it may be even trickier to catch those red flags and scam audition posts. Even I tend to get tricked sometimes, so I appreciate the feedback regarding the recent audition posting requiring people to pay or sign up for a service.
This brings me to this week's topic of discussion. As actors, we may sometimes be asked to pay for specific services that can be viewed as marketing tools, but do these really help us find work? Casting Frontier is a popularly used resource in the Portland area, and while the basic profile is free, the premium profile is a minimal charge of $10/month, but opens up some very valuable resources, including having a demo reel available for visitors. Another widely known resource is IMDB, which is $15.95/month for a professional profile, also allowing a bio, headshots, and a demo reel.
There are other free actor resources out there, including Actor Access, Actor Hub, Model Mayhem, and the amazing resource mentioned by our visitors, Now Casting, but which are more beneficial to use, and at what stage is it necessary to pay for these resources to move your career forward? What are the online marketing tools you take advantage of, and are the free resources enough for your acting needs?
Let's open the discussion and chat about your thoughts.
As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.
Thanks.

Rock climbing/canyoneering talent needed (Oregon)
I'm casting talent for an athletic footwear shoot that will happen on location in Eastern Oregon at the end of the month. Time commitment is 2 days of travel and 2 days of shooting.
I'm looking for men and women with rock climbing and/or canyoneering skills and gear. Age is less important than technical ability and fitness level. All ethnic backgrounds considered.
We are shooting in a remote location near the OR/ID border and will be dry camping for the duration of the shoot. Having your own camping gear (tent, sleeping bag and pad, etc) is a plus, but not a necessity. All meals while on location will be provided to you and prepared for you in camp. The photo team will be driving out from Portland and you have the option of carpooling with us.
Please send recent photographs of your face and of your body and your height, weight, and SHOE SIZE and detail your climbing experience for me. If cast, you will be required to sign a model's release and you will be paid a flat rate of $1000 for 4 days of work.
Please be as complete in my request as possible, my time is really limited. Thank you!
