Since many auditions were posted on this blog later in the day yesterday, I have placed any new opportunities at the top of today's casting calls, and have kept yesterday's auditions on the list for your convenience.
Now, let's get back to our topic of discussion that seems to be getting some good feedback from the chat box!
So, you have successfully marketed yourself online, and those auditions are starting to fly in. You arrive at the audition, confident, looking good, and prepared to present yourself and any prepared materials before the casting director. You proudly hand over your beautifully printed headshot with your neatly formatted resume on the back, giving a smile to those in the room. Then, you hear those terrifying words, "Wow, that's you??"
Maybe you waited too long to get new headshots. Maybe your makeup artist did your makeup differently than you normally wear it for auditions. Maybe your hair color or style has changed too much. I know someone who had a perm for a year, and then stopped wearing her hair curly, and her hair looked dramatically different when she wore it straight. I knew someone who wore her hair blonde, and then decided to go back to her natural dark brown, which dramatically changed her look. Use your best judgment. Whatever the case may be, your headshot must look enough like you in your current state, and must reflect the essence of your personality. As outlined in Lana Veenker's Tools 4 Actors newsletters, casting directors hate surprises. Not only will you waste a casting director's time, but you may anger agents and casting directors to the point where they will remember you from that experience and not call you in again. Many actors even have a variety of headshots to use for a variety of roles - theatrical, commercial, and film.
How do you determine whether you loo like your headshot? How do you know when it is time for new headshots? Do you use different headshots for different types of roles? Who took your headshots, and who would you recommend to others?
Let's open the discussion and chat about your thoughts with your headshots, which as an actor are your number one marketing tool before you step in the door for that audition.

Actors needed for Short Film (Gresham/Portland/Vancouver)
Looking for three male actors and one female actress, or model as there will be no lines for the female role. This is for a short film project.
The lead role will ideally be a male actor in his mid to late 20's or early 30's. Slender build, yet fit with a scholarly look, such as a professor or scientist. Role requires that the individual can play both a weak, sympathetic character, but one that can also make the switch to an aggressive powerful presence.
The other two male roles will be for characters no younger than early 20's and no older than early 40's at most. The two supporting roles will be for thug-ish, rough edged looking individuals. These two characters are harden criminals. Scared faces and or any other physical attributes that would lend it's self to these roles would be nice, yet are by no means a requirement.
The female role will be a none speaking part and will serve as the love interest to the main character, acting experience preferable, but not required. Looking for an angelic, porcelain face that can flirt with the camera in a modest fashion. Age range from early to mid 20's.

This is a none paying gig, but a good opportunity to add to a developing portfolio.

Seeking 4 actors for a paid table reading on Thursday, May 19, 6pm to 8:30pm
1. Andrew, male 40s to 50s, major support character (more information below)
2. Minor roles, female, any age, 5 characters (i.e., one person will read all minor female characters)
3. Minor roles, male, any age, 4 characters (i.e., one person will read all minor male characters)
4. Action lines, any gender, any age (i.e., reading many of the action lines in the script that occur before/after the dialogue).
Pay for each role is $25 and dinner is provided.
The complete screenplay will be provided in advance to actors chosen to participate.

This is the first table reading of "Immortality Me", a feature-length screenplay written by Portland writer/filmmaker/instructor Greg Kerr.
"Immortality Me" is High Concept Science Fiction, Drama, Narrative Fiction (think "2001: A Space Odyssey" or the more recent "Moon"). The science fiction concepts include: genetic manipulation and cloning, human extinction, artificial intelligence, advanced computerized simulations and holograms, time travel, space travel, and alien life forms.
The reading will be
- done with professional actors from the Portland area (listed below).
- filmed (with primary attention to the lead actresses) and excerpts will be put on the fullbrainfilms.com website.
- viewed by Multimedia writing students from Portland Community College (about 25 students will be in attendance to critique the script, not the actors)

About Jan and Andrew:
Jan More, Original/Clone (dual role)
Jan is a woman in her late 40s to early 50s. She has a Masters degree in Anthropology and has spent years working in corporate relations/corporate culture, then in data archiving for Internet start-ups. She now runs her own company, Immortality Me, the purpose of which is to permanently archive people's life stories. It's not just about genealogy. The information collected is then used to create realistic simulations of the individual's life for the benefit of their family, friends, and future generations. Jan and her team have created a powerful interactive and adaptive computer system known as HITH (Hyper-relational, Interpretive, Telematic Historia). HITH is a learning database.
Andrew
Andrew is a man in his late 40s to early 50s. He is creative and home-centered, not work-centered -- his job is not described in the script, nor is work his primary motivation in life. Andrew, or Andy, or as Jan refers to him occasionally, "And", is Jan's ex-significant other. They still maintain a friendship, but their relationship has always taken a backseat to her professional interests and running her company. While he is still very much in love with Jan, she has kept him at a distance since their break-up.

AUDITION: Actress Wanted for Spring CoHo Production
deManiak Productions is seeking one actress (non-equity) for its spring, 2012 CoHo Theatre production of Hard Times, adapted from the Charles Dickens’ novel by Stephen Jeffries.
The actress cast will play several different parts in this unique four-person adaptation.
Auditions will be held at CoHo Theatre, 2257 Northwest Raleigh Street
Portland, OR 97210, on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, June 6th, 7th & 8th from 6– 9pm.
Auditions will consist of selected readings from the script. Proficiency in British dialects (upper and lower class) is highly desirable. Audition sides will be provided several days prior to auditions.
Hard Times will rehearse for approximately five weeks during April, 2012 and will open May 11 for a four-six week run. Pay will be approximately $750

The majority of rehearsals are at George Rogers Park Memorial Garden, with plenty of shade, covered areas in case of light rain, convenient parking & bathrooms.
Compensation: $300 guarantee plus an equal share of audience donations - we pass the hat at the end of each performance. Not a bad way to spend the summer.

Miracle Theatre Group will be holding its general auditions on Saturday May 28th!
Our 2011-2012 promises to be fun, featuring new works and contemporary plays that will provide tremendous creative opportunities for local performers. Bilingual and Spanish-speaking actors are encouraged but Spanish-speaking is not required to audition! Actors who sing, play music, and/or dance are also highly encouraged to attend!
