STILL CASTING ACTORS FOR INDIE FILM 'THE TRACKING GAME' (NE Portland)

A couple weeks ago we held auditions for our film, 'The Tracking Game'. Many roles have been cast, but there are still a few yet to be. This is a very low budget film, but with high expectations. We plan to take this to many festivals and premiere it right here in Portland. This is a psychological thriller about a high school senior who gets his cell phone number mixed up with a con artists'.

ROLES STILL CASTING:
(NOTE: FOR HIGH SCHOOL ROLES, IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE, IF YOU ARE 28 AND CAN PLAY 18, PLEASE DO!)

SAM ELLIOT PIERCE- Lead role. Many lines. Senior in high school. He is stuck on his cell phone, trying to reason with an arms dealer gunning for a 60,000 dollar pay-up.

STAN- 30s or 40s. Plants a GPS chip in SAM's cell phone. Uses sleep darts to knock him and his friend out. A few scenes.

RICK- 20s, 30s or 40s. Sells Sam a suitcase for 15 bucks, which he claims to have marijuana in it. Whats really in the suitcase, however...well, you'll just have to find out at the end.

SNIPER #2- Any age, over 21 preferred. Scene at end of movie. He is very dimwitted, and is hired to assassinate Sam. Think Looney Toons, the big fat mobster guy who goes "Duhhhhh.....Yes boss. Right away, boss. Duhhhhhh......okey dokey." Or something like that. Mugsey, I think might have been his name? Or Rocky.

EXTRAS
-We need all sorts of extras of all ages. There are high school scenes, party scenes, that we would like to have depth to it. The more the merrier.

Again, no pay due to an extremely low budget. If the movie brings in revenue, we can for sure work something out...

Thanks for your interest, and please respond ASAP as we would like to shoot in July. At least get started by then.

Female Cellist with Cello for Photo shoot

I am a Photography student at the Art Institute in Portland. For my final project, I chose to do portraits of Cellists with their Cello, either playing or posing for the portraits. I would like to shoot outside if weather permits or inside. Sunshine, a beautiful spring day, in one of the Iris flower fields, or just somewhere fun.

What you get is a cd of all of the images I take of you. If you have a friend that is interested then that would be great too. I would like to have both male and female artists for my project, but my emphasis is for a girl with her Cello, or a group of guys and girls. Age does not matter and you don't have to be the best at playing it either. You just need a Cello and a dress, or dress nice for a guy. You may have someone with you so that you feel comfortable too.

Please email me back right away if you are interested. I am hoping to shoot this weekend, or next at the latest.

Auditions: Saturday, May 28, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Saturday, May 28, 2011.

There are so many different techniques that actors can utilize to achieve a solid performance. Many local teachers focus on different styles, and some may work perfectly, while others just aren't for you. Whether it's Stanislavsky, Viewpoints, Meisner, or just being you, there is a reason so many people rely on these techniques when focusing on training and improving your acting abilities.

What are some of the techniques you have used in your training, and what have you actually applied when working on set? What works for you, and what doesn't? Sometimes, depending on the role, being a method actor is the best way for me to get a true, honest performance, while others may laugh at method actors and think it's unnecessary to go that far to get a good performance.

Whatever works for you is what you should stick with, but it's always interesting to learn about other actor's techniques, and what your process is to achieve that perfect, natural performance.

Share with us what your process is and what techniques work best for you. Which teachers have you been drawn to that have helped you get that solid performance. Do you use different techniques for different character types? Is your process for film the same as it would be when preparing to perform on stage?

Let's get this week's topic of discussion going

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

Miracle Auditions: OEDIPUS EL REY

Hello Actors!

Putting out a call for auditions for OEDIPUS EL REY, which will be produced by Miracle Theatre next May, 2012.

Stipend offered, AEA casting very limited. Looking for male actors, 20s-60s, Latino and non-Latino, but comfortable with bilingual dialogue. Please read the breakdown below for details.

OEDIPUS EL REY

Written by Luis Alfaro

Directed by Elizabeth Huffman

May 4 to 26, 2012

A story that “crackles with electricity” —Washington Examiner

With Chicano swagger and sly sense of humor, Luis Alfaro transports Sophocles’ tragedy to the mean streets of East L.A. Here Oedipus does hard time for ripping off a Costco, Jocasta splashes on the Jean Naté while glued to “All My Children” and the oracle takes cash only. But the word on the street is not good and the passion Oedipus has for one woman will violate our most sacred law.

Rehearsals begin: March 19, 2012

Opens: May 4 /12

Runs 4 weeks, Thursday-Sunday, 15 performances through 5/26/12

Oedipus: early 20’s: (Lead). He has spent almost his entire life in prison; he is proud, arrogant and dangerous, yet totally naïve about the outside world and especially about women. He has a tender and vulnerable side that surfaces when dealing with Jocasta or the man he thinks is his father. Bi-Lingual: Latino

CORO: (20-40’s) The chorus of 3 will play several roles and they are central to this fabric of this play. They should be a variety of ages and types but all of them are hardened criminals who each have their unique place in the prison world. Actors should be fit, and agile. Director Elizabeth Huffman is looking for 3 different kinds of criminal types. ( for example: the bully, the gay drug street hustler, the stupid but dangerous lowlife to give you an idea) All 3 should be different so making a strong character choice will be welcome. All should be comfortable with Bi-lingual dialogue in Spanish, but do not need to be Latino.

Laius: (40’s) The real father of Oedipus, he is a real bad ass. Arrogant, enjoys being the King of his territory, tough and uncompromising. Yet he is highly superstitious and in his private moments fearful of losing his status. He will also play the The Esfinge, an old, wily, mystical woman. Bi-lingual: Latino

Tiresias (60’s): Blind, quiet, wise, loving and spiritual. Oedipus believes that he is his father and Tiresias allows him to do so. He is holding onto a dark secret that, without his faith, would destroy him. Bi Lingual: Latino.

Auditions will be held:

Saturday, June 4

1:30 – 3:30pm (please do not arrive without first contacting director Elizabeth Huffman, thanks!)

At the Milagro Theatre, 525 SE Stark, Portland, 97214

Thanks and best wishes,

Olga…

Looking for someone interested in taking up a co-creative / co-producing position with a local web-series!

We are a non-profit fan series called We Are Gotham City, with a website at wearegothamcity.com, a set of fantastic scripts and a great group of actors, and are currently working on a kickstarter funding page.

Our filming process has become rather slow due to a lack of resources and available help; what we're in need of at the moment is someone who is willing to take up a co-creative, co-producing sort of role to assist with the securing of locations and dates and times for production (filming would last only a couple hours per episode).

The role is not a paying one, as we aren't legally authorized to provide payment thanks to creative license. However, there are incentives available.

Thank you so much!

Auditions: Thursday, May 26, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Thursday, May 26, 2011.

Thanks.

- Aparna @ We Are Gotham City

Casting actors for an indie drama

I’m directing a short feature, a character piece or drama, that is to be produced as a diy effort. I’m looking for actors (experience is not required) interested in taking on roles in the film, described as follows:

A woman, who has just moved in along with her boyfriend, stops by to introduce herself to the couple next door. But their visit is cut short when he interrupts them. As they continue to see each other, the couple becomes concerned about the neighbors’ troubled relationship. They find out later that the woman’s sister has killed herself, leaving them to question why.

I see the characters as having these features: the two couples are both in their mid to late 20s, the neighbor woman the youngest.

I have other stuff to be produced. For more information and details about other projects, visit http://ryansehr.blogspot.com/

need newborn baby (June birth?) for feature film 1 scene (PDX/Vanc area)

Shooting a scene for a family dramedy feature film - will be in Late July or Mid-August. Will need a quick insert shot of a baby being held by an actress playing the mom- would like one month old or so but can fudge the age if need be. The baby is supposed to be a girl in the film. The shoot will be very fast -we would need to have you dress your baby in the outfit we provide -- typical cute pink baby clothes-- then we can get the shot pretty quick, then let you change your baby back into his/her clothing and we will be using a doll for the wide shots. The film is PG-13. Your baby would receive a credit in the film and your family will receive a finished DVD copy plus photos as a keepsake. We are low-budget, however we may be able to provide a gift or some other token of appreciation.

Please email your info and please ask all the questions you want. We can send all sorts of information to prove we are a legit film including the whole script for approval. Just not wanting to put it all out here on craigslist as we are keeping under the radar for this production.

Thank you!

Auditions: Sunday, May 22, 2011

This page contains auditions posted on Sunday, May 22, 2011.

This week's topic of discussion is a very challenging one. It is not easy to be confident about yourself. We work hard and feel talented, but then don't book that job. We eat healthy and exercise, but walk on set and stand next to a muscle man or a size 2 model. Something can shake you that quickly.

The main thing we must remember is to stay grounded, and have that inner happiness. Thank you, Amy, for your support and encouragement to others in the chat box. Having a strong support system, and encouragement from those around you is so important, so I am happy that this blog is allowing people to get support from one another.

Now, back to the topic of the week. As many of us already know, this industry can be very competitive. While you may go into an audition and nail it, you may learn later that they were looking for an actor with blonde hair and blue eyes, as opposed to the gorgeous red hair and dark eyes you were born with.

There are things in this industry that are out of our control when it comes to casting. The things that are in our control are those we should be working on and bettering to ensure we can better our chances of getting cast. The obvious traits in our control are talent, and we have discussed the importance of continuing to take classes and train. The not-so-obvious things in our control focus in on looks.

Many will tell you that maintaining healthy eating habits and a healthy figure are part of the job. In a recent news article, a variety of celebrities were interviewed for tips and advice on how they maintain their killer bods, and it came down to two simple things: nutrition and exercise. Yes, they have money for a nutritionist and a personal trainer, but they also consistently eat the same number of calories everyday, and workout everyday. This helps them stay fit, helps them look healthy, and even helps them keep their skin looking nice and fresh.

There was recently a casting for hand models, and many of us may have looked down at our hands to find scratches, scars, and unkept nails. This is another thing in our control - making sure that from head to toe, we look good for the part we are auditioning for.

It sounds obvious, but in this industry, you are the product, so being the best you is vital.

Maybe it's not as important to maintain your looks, but keeping your mind at ease is sufficient in helping you live a healthy lifestyle, and stay calm and collected when you audition and book those parts.

What do you do to stay healthy, relaxed and at ease, and looking good? Do you whiten your teeth, work out regularly, meditate, do yoga, or even sleep with gloves on to protect your hands? This industry is full of secrets to keep you looking and feeling good, but sometimes it's just as simple as working out, eating right, and doing whatever you need to do to stay grounded and relaxed.

Share your success stories on how you stay on top of looking the best you can and as grounded as you can be.

As always, if you are a fan of the blog, please share this with actor friends. If you have any feedback for me on how to improve my blog, share this with me so that I may work on improving the blog.

Thanks.

WEB SERIES Casting Call

We are shooting a pilot for a web series. As of now there is no front end pay. We will be giving a percentage from back end sales, if the series takes off. So far we have a very talented lead actor that will carry the show. Below is a list of characters and their background info. These are the parts we are looking to fill. If you match the description, and think you can carry the part, email us your head shot/resume and which part you would like to audition for. Experience isn’t required. Auditions will be held May 24th and 25th. If you can’t make it on those days, and would really like to try out, email us your info anyways. Email us at andre@marinafilmcompany.com

* Douglas Lansky:- age 20 – 30 (supporting roll)

Douglas Lansky is Johnny’s partner in crime. They both work together for a man named Dominic “the Snake” Colombo. They have known each other for a while so in turn put up with each others company. They are not good friends but get along so they can get things done.

Douglas is taller than Johnny with an Athletic build. He fancies himself an intellectual man however really never has enough information to back up anything he says. He likes to get people started in arguments which usually turn out bad for the other person. Douglas is no Joe Pescie, however because of his work, like Johnny, has adapted a mean streak and is fearless when it comes to using it. He does not have any noticeable ambition to do more with his life and finds it amusing that he is a criminal.

Douglas Criminal History:

2002: Sent to Juvenile detention center for stealing a car and possession of an illegal substance.

Time in the detention center-rough/Time kept getting added on for bad behavior.

2005: Douglas is released from Juvenile DC. He is now eighteen years old. He meets Johnny in a diner one night. They semi bond over their utter distant for frat boys and both get picked up that night for Assault. While in a jail for the weekend they get bailed out by anonymous “friend”. A message leads them to a small dive bar. This is where they meet Dominic and are first hired out for a collection.

2011: Series begins.

* Student Councilor: age 30-50

The student councilor is simply someone we see every now and then throughout the series. He tries to advise Johnny’s career choices. He seems to be pretty simple minded but is baffled by Johnny. He thinks he knows that Johnny is a trouble maker but never really knows the full extent of it.

This character serves as a comedic relief from the drama of the series.

* Beth Wilson: age 20-30

Beth Wilson is Johnny’s Girlfriend. We never know much about her. She presents herself somewhat trashy and has a thing for being fucked up. She met Johnny in a bar she worked at as a dancer. She may give off a persona of being simple and too intoxicated to think but she is smart and knows what Johnny does for money. She often uses this for her amusement using his emotions to get close to violence. She is sort of a lady Macbeth character.

* Detective Patterson: age 30-45

Detective Patterson is simply just that. He hassles Johnny and Douglas on a daily basis. He reminds them daily that eventually they will get caught, and enjoys fucking with them. Because of his constant harassment the boys tend to keep things as legal as they can with simple things, like car registration etc.

Detective Patterson will play a very pivotal character eventually when Johnny meets a special someone.

Family w/ 1-year-old for Educational Video

We are looking for one or two NON-CAUCASIAN families with a 1-year-old needed to act in a parenting video with Birth to Three!

We will be shooting in Eugene next week, and we are looking for a couple of families with 1-year-olds to add more diversity to our video. You would be needed for one or two days (4 hours each day) next Tuesday, May 24th from 1:30-5:00pm and/or Wednesday, May 25th for a few hours in the morning or afternoon.

We have had dozens of local families participate in our programs over the years, and it is always a fun and relaxed experience. Our crew is easy-going and respectful. NO ACTING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! We are looking for real families to simply go about everyday interactions with their toddlers and model positive parenting techniques.

This program will be used by Birth to Three as part of the parenting programs for parents of young children.

We pay $150 per day for a single parent family, and $250 per day for a two parent family, and we will also reimburse you for gas for travel to Eugene. And we will send you a copy of the video when it is completed!

If you have any questions, or know of someone who might be interested in participating, please let me know.
