Audition Announcement
Inviting Desire 2012: The Dawn of Sex
Auditions are April 30th
You are invited to prepare an audition piece for Dance Naked Productions upcoming show, Inviting Desire 2012: The Dawn of Sex.
Dance Naked Productions is a sex-positive theater company based in Portland, Oregon. We make visceral theater that illuminates, educates and entertains. From tantra to taboo, our shows are inclusive, engaging, authentic and arousing.
Inviting Desire is an devised ensemble production. Begun in 2009 with Inviting Desire: A Theatrical Aphrodisiac, the production has grown from primarily personal monologue format to include scenes, songs, and ensemble numbers.
During the course of the rehearsal period, we will discuss, ask questions, send out surveys, improvise, write scenes and monologues, play games, brainstorm- whatever it takes to stimulate our creativity. The topic is sex. The desire is enlightenment. Better sex, more pleasure, increased openness, greater understanding - through the medium of theater. Sex-positive theater...with a happy ending.
We are looking for women (yeah, I know. Sorry guys. Maybe next time) - all kinds of women - virginal and matriarchal, all shapes and sizes, colors and preferences. We are interested in your ability to tell a story, to share your fantasies (even if they never make it to the stage), and to portray with compassion and authenticity the sex lives of other people.
We want to cast women who enjoy talking about, writing about and ultimately, performing a show about sex. Generally, this creates it’s own self-selection process.
That is not to say you need to be into wild, kinky, unusual sex practices to participate- a vanilla palate is a-ok, but an open mind is required.
Some theatrical experience and training is preferred, but not totally necessary. Please bring a recent headshot and resume (or your closest approximation). (If you have neither, a photo and a letter of interest will suffice).
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
For the audition, please prepared a three minute piece. This can be something you have written, or found in a book or play, but it must be erotic in nature. Preferably, it is something that turns you on. From the first person perspective generally works best- fantasies are great, memories told in present tense can work too.
If you have the piece memorized, fantastic. If that makes you too nervous, you can hold book, but please be very familiar with your material.
Suggestions for material can be found in Nancy Friday’s books “My Secret Garden,” “Women on Top” or any number of The Best American Erotica series.
Auditions will include some freewriting and some improv work. Come prepared to move around (i.e. don’t feel like you have to dress “sexy”).
TIME COMMITMENT: Rehearsals will be 2X a month from June through August and then 4X a week starting in September, and into October. Performances will be in November. (exact dates to be determined by cast preference and availability).
Who You are auditioning for
Eleanor O’Brien is Dance Naked Productions’ artistic director and has directed two of the past three Inviting Desires (our touring production, "Lubricate Your Libido" was directed by Brenda Hubbard). This year she will be joined as co-director by Allison Tigard, an alumna of two of the past productions. Annie Herring will assistant direct.
Compensation: percentage of ticket sales
Audition Times:
April 30th: 6-8pm or 8-10pm
Callbacks May 6th: 7-10pm
To schedule an audition - please send an email to Annie Herring at iaintnodamsel@yahoo.com with Inviting Desire 2012 in the subject line and indicate if you would like to audition in the first time slot (April 30th 6-8pm) or the second (April 30th 8-10pm).
